Two Harley dealer service dept have now said that the 1/4” difference is not an issue. Maybe I’ll just start from square one, try again and see what happens

But I realize that what may not be a problem using Harley’s OEM shocks with no concern or requirements for adjusting sag, may very well be more so of a problem with Legend or other brands. That’s where I’m stuck now I guess lol.

OK here's the end result:

I decided to not wait for any more input and I worked with the distance difference and adjusted each shock as necessary to get the sag. I really don't think the frame or swing arms or anything else is out of alignment. The shocks are slightly different positions on the thread barrel but I went with the sag as the requirement, not equal turns. We got a break in the weather and took it for a 20+ mile test run and it's back like it was on 1/1/2020 when the wife immediately loved it the first day I ever installed them. So much better than the Harley stock! Although those stock ones did keep me riding over the last couple of months. Maybe next year I'll go with a Legend front end.

I pass all this on because I figure if I was looking for these answers to the questions I had, someone else has or will also. Hopefully it will help others. Happy riding!

Glad you worked out your problem but I'm curious; You have a torque wrench that is capable of going over 700 inch pounds?

Ride safe?

Yes I do. It’s a shorter handled one which makes it good for tighter areas but the down side is of course it takes more butt for the higher torques. But as I’ve said, whether you call it in inches or foot pounds, it’s the same torque.

It's completely normal for those vertical measurements to be different side to side, that's what the shocks are for to correct that.

Thank you. That’s pretty much what I finally determined but had to make sure. I have not seen that particular issue addressed anywhere; it’s always said to turn them equally but that wasn’t working. Hopefully this will help others who may run into this and wonder.
