Finally sitting down for some winter work, and got an amazing deal on 2012 CVO Street Glide rear bags and fender; did I mention the bags are filled with custom speaker setup? AND we have a color match!
Question
Can I swap the entire setup (even if with some custom work)?
Note - Based on what I read, I do not think the fender will work, looks like something changes in 2009 on the frames?
Can I at least retain the bags? (sell the fender and just clean up the look of the rear)
Since I am planning to do some winter work, I think this would be a great value ADD for my bike in 2021. There is a wealth of information here so I think I will be quite active over the next couple of month .... THEN ENJOING THE RIDE!! THANKS ahead of time for all the support.
Chris, I may be wrong, but I do not think a 2012 rear fender will fit on your 2001, the '09+ rear fenders are wider than '08 and older. The bags should work with minimal tinkering. Even '14+ bags work on older bikes with a front mount mod.
I just finished a complete rear end re-model that included replacing my 2010 rear fender with a 2009 Street Glide fender. Also swapped out leather covered bags for the CVO style stretched bags with '14+ one touch latches.
Yeah, pretty much what I thought but the bags were key here and they are off of a CVO but have a full sound system integration. My goal is to tie that all up on the 2001 Road King and clean up the rear while wiring and all that extra stuff. I just really like that wide look to the bags (fender/bag). I see some other tidbits that should allow me to replicate and I can just sell the fender. Should not have to worry about color as it matches. THANK YOU!
I've seen ads for a newer CVO rear fender look alike for a 07-down, from what I have read the CVO look alike fender goes over the frame rails instead of inside them. I don't know if this would be an option for a stock post 07 factory fender.
