I have noticed the lights for 6th gear, cruise, etc contained in the speedo housing are pretty dim. Can these be replaced with brighter bulbs, etc or more powerful LEDs whichever the case may be? Replaced that is without replacing the entire speedo?
There are some old threads around about changing the LED's. I believe it can be done but you need the correct type and have to be very handy with electronics soldering. Some folks on the thread have done it. You also have to very carefully pry the speedo apart, I think from the bezel ring and carefully pry off the needle. I can't remember exactly about the threads but there might be some screws or other means to remove the dial face and then you can get at the LEDs. Do a search on instrument lights maybe.
I know the feeling. I am tempted myself to do it and get rid of the orange and go to a red lighting on the dials. But knowing me I'd just ruin two perfectly good gauges. The picture shows how far I have gotten but not worked up the courage to tackle the main gauges. The small gauges were simple changes swapping bulb for an LED with the appropriate socket fit.
How's life in North Carolina? I am thinkin
g that if it would ever be possible to get to the USA, your neck of the woods would appeal to me. But not likely as I'm an old dog now.
Life in NC? I live in the mountains of western NC and I can't think of anywhere I would rather live. I can still ride some days in winter and the summer in the mountains doesn't get too hot to ride. As for age, I turned 73 this year and plan to ride for the foreseeable future. Come on down! You won't regret it.
I shall make the journey one of these days. In 2019 I got as far as Harper's Ferry and Winchester Va. I have read about your area and would very much like to visit.
