Scanner/diagnostics tools when there's no dealer around
A'ight fellas, here's the deal: H-D HQ is closing down dealer after dealer in Central America, (and it's only one dealer per country, mind you) and folks are weary of how to keep their bikes up and running once the factory scanners and service are gone. What are some alternatives to going to the dealer that you've relied on to pull codes off your bikes and do other jobs like key fobs, ECU flashes and whatnot?
I use a Dynojet Powervision for reading codes and flashing ecm. It also connects to my laptop to work on my tune. It can read codes on any H-D with correct connections but marries one bike for ECM flash unless you buy additional licenses.
Can't you get any codes and the corresponding part number right from the speedo on the bike itself? I know that doesn't solve the issue with dealer only stuff but doesn't the Daytona twin tech tool do alot of that?
+1 for the Daytona Twin Scan 4.... Can probably find one new for $400 or so, will do everything you need.

Thanks! I'll look into that one. Thank you all for your repllies. Anything that can help me be ''my own dealership'' since our local dealer (and neighboring ones) are closing down fast!
What year motorcycle are you needing this tool for? I personally don't know of anyone that needed to have a FOB or ECU re-flashed. Have you needed these types of services in the past?
I just posted this in another thread. The TechnoResearch VCM-TR4 (circled) for $400 is the same hardware as the $1500 one, but you have to buy a 'per bike' license, which is $35, unless you want a tuner license, which is more.

You may want to check out the "Daytona Twin Tec Twin Scan 4" (for canbus bikes), it handles many BCM functions (bleed ABS brakes, add key fobs, etc) and does all the engine code checks/clearing....
If you add an additional module (with O2 sensors) you can also do EFI tuning, data logging, etc., but that will raise the price substantially...
I found them for sale online, new, for $419 w/o the extra tuning module, but I haven't used it yet. The vendor sent me the right kit/cables, but it had the wrong module in it ???? I'm in the middle of a return/exchange..
Anyways, I plan to use it for adding a key fob, and ABS brake bleeding... as well as other BCM features...
I have a PowerVision Tuner for all my EFI tuning and ECM flashing needs, plus a PowerVision does a great job at engine code checks/clearing on any bike... you don't need a license for a bike, just for the code checking/clearing... only for tuning/ECM flashing..
