I want to lower my 2006 CVO Ultra Classic with a set of shorter rear shocks. I have found a set of HD Premium low shocks part#54000114/54000113 (new in 2017). According the the HD fitment page, they do not fit any of the 06 FLH's; starts with 2009. I prefer to lower with shorter shocks and not with a suspension link at the swingarm.
Is anyone aware of the fitment/performance issue related to the pre-09 touring models for these shocks?
the older swingarm is not as stout as the newer, 2009+. with the premium hand adjustable shocks, one side (the left) does all the work, while the right side is pretty much 'cosmetic'. so you end up with unequal forces exerted on a less stout piece of steel. could result in twisting. at least that's the story i've heard, and it is highly likely to be correct.
I put a set of the hand adjustable premium shocks off a 2014 bike on my last 2007 Road King project and they work fine and I have had no issues in 2 years over all types of roads. I actually think the ride is better than my new Road Glide. I ended up replacing the stock RGS shocks with RWD RS-1's.
