Default Docking hardware

Good Morning All,
I have a question concerning Harley's quick connect hardware for the tour pak. I just bought an 06, FLHT/I, and one of the first things I want to do is put a tour pack on it. I already have the front docking hardware on the bike and will be getting the rear docking kit from M&M Monday via UPS. Is it something I could install myself ? If possible, please share any tips or problems I might encounter with the install.
Thanks,
capt42a

capt42a ,

Congrats on the new ride. A friend and I installed the docking hardware on his RK classic. While the HD instructions were a bit confusing everything went well. You should have no problem doing this yourself. They package this kit to accomadate several models so the hardest part was sorting out the hardware you need from what you don't.

Hello LDrider,
Thanks for the reply. I talked to a fellow rider yesterday and when he said I should let the HD shop here in Jackson tackle it , he had me a little worried. He claimed it took them two hours to install just the rear docking hardware. I thought that sounded a little extreme. I'll carry it to the firehouse and give it a try.
Thanks Again,
capt42a

Capt42a - so where you a FF at???? been one here in CA now for 32.5 years... I also got the docking hyd for my FLHTCI and did the work my self... It was Not as easy as I expected.... most of the "pain" was getting it adjusted to my bike... At first, I thought I had a bent/tweeked set up... Just need adjusting... In fact,, after I got it all on and spent my efforts - I rode it to the Harley shop and paid for a 30 time frame to do the final adjusting... Had to admit "I" could not figure the final adj out - Not saying that you or your buddies can,, After beeing a FF for 32+ years... I have found that most of the time we only "think" we know everything... LOL>... Docking Hardware is great for those with the room and do a lot of swapping... Over time,,, I ended up putting the stock bolt on set up back on the bike... The wife really did not like the Sissybar compared to the tour pack,,, Never let me try both... LOL... I did not like the big box look, so I went to the chopped/Pizza box and after awhile, It grew to look Ok/Cool to me...
Try it your self... worst that can happen, is you do most of the work and have to pay a little to the HD shop,,, best case,,, You get it right and save your self the $70 per hour,,,,,

Stay safe -

Never forget {343}

It's not too hard to do. One tip. Get the rack and mounting points all on and adjusted before you put the tour pac on the rack. It is hard to get things right when you have the weight of the tour pac to deal with. Also try to have the bike sitting level instead of on the side stand. It's easier to line everything up if the bike is up straight.

Regards,

Bill

I agree HD instructions were a bit confusing! Did mine in a little less then 2hr because of instructions. When I was done it look easier then they made it out to be.

Its a piece of cake putting all that stuff on. And friend of mine has also just told me that H-D makes a lock for the tourpack slides that keeps anyone not authorized to take them off from doing so! They run something close to $56.oo or so!
