Just curious about this quote I got of $220.00 for mount, balance, install both my front and back tires on 2016 Street glide. This is from local shop and not HD dealer. Is this a good or bad ? Thanks.
is that you bringing your bike in? if so, that means they'll be removing both wheels, then tires off the wheels, mounting tires, balancing tires, then re-mounting them on your bike. i know my dealership charges more than that for the labor involved to do that. my dealer used to have a $1 install special. you buy the tires from them, they'll do all the labor for a buck. when they stopped doing that is when i bought my changer. my first tire change after they quit the special was an eye opener for sure. full retail on tires, plus $225ish for labor... yeah, i didn't want to pay that either.
if that is you bringing them just the wheels, then yeah, it's too high.
That's basically about 2hrs labor. An hour taking tire/rim off the bike, changing out the tire on the rim, reinstalling new tire/rim back on the bike. Then, another hour doing the same to the other end. Sounds reasonable to me. I got a jack, tools, and know how and prolly couldn't do the rear in an hour, AND wouldn't do it for a hundred bucks for a stranger. However, I would do my own after having dealer put tires on the rims.
Is that price for you bringing the wheels to them, or the whole bike?
If it's the whole bike, it's still a little high but not outrageous.

HD's job time manual for a 2016 Street Glide shows .6 hrs. for front tire replacement (including balancing), and .8 hrs. for rear tire replacement (including balancing).
So 1.4 hours total.
$220.00 ÷ 1.4 = ?
Most dealers in my area charge 1 hour rate per wheel if you take in the whole bike ... 1/2 rate per wheel if you just take in the wheels ... my dealers rate is currently $109 per hour so it's in the ballpark
