I recently traded my Fatboy for a 19 Street Glide Special. The previous owner had Pro Action shocks installed, which from what I’ve read are one of the better brands. Problem is the dude was like 6-7, I’m only 5-9 and the bike sits a little high for me, I can’t quite flat foot (I have test ridden a couple new stock SG’s that I could). I plan on calling Pro Action next week and see what they recommend because the guy also outweighs me by at least 100 lbs , so I’m sure I’ll have to fine tune the shocks- I watched a couple of their videos and it looks simple enough. But I came across a few different lowering kits and it seems like a 1” kit would be perfect for what I’m looking to accomplish. I found this one on DK’s for under 100 bucks:
You might consider sending your seat to Mean City Cycles. I have a 30" inseam and I could not stand flat footed on my SG. Sent my seat to them and they reduced/changed seat padding and narrowed the front of the seat so I wasn't so "bow legged". That made a huge difference. I can now stand flat footed and the seat is comfy. Check them out as well. Good Luck!!
PO had Ultra 944 rear shocks installed on my '09 Ultra Classic which lowers 1". I believe they have a 944 Low that gets you 2" but I would think the ride would be a bit rough. I really like the 1" lower cause I'm far from tall, 5'10" and a half or so. I'm foot flat with boots on, not quite with sneakers. Has alot of adjustment & can be adjusted by hand, no air pump or anything.
Seat was the first change I made, I should’ve mentioned it...the PO had a Mustang solo on it and I replaced it with a Predator seat from Drag Specialties. It helped a lot, the seat is designed to sit lower.
And I really don’t want to change the shocks if I can avoid it, that’s why I was looking at the lowering kits
Have you measured the length of the shocks? He may have instaled 13" shocks for an Ultra rather than the 12" shocks for a Streetglide. You may have to buy 12" shocks if he did. My Progressive shocks are 11 1/2"
That’s one of the reasons I was asking about the lowering kit, if he did put 13” shocks on it...instead of having to swap out the $800 plus shocks (of course I don’t have to use shocks that expensive), would the lowering kit be a viable option instead? Guess they will be able to tell me when I call Monday...
