most cleaners are lacquer thinner. have been using cup of lacquer thinner in tank periodically since the mid 70s. gallon of lacquer thinner is about $8 and you'll find you are using it for lots of other cleanups if you have it sitting there.
While thinner may have been OK to use years ago, the many rubber o-rings that are in fuel pumps and injectors can be eaten by thinner and the other cost effective acetone. Techron is made so it will not harm rubber seals and o-rings, that is why it is recommended by many different vehicle manufacturers
I haven't used any in the past 66k miles and even use no-name cheapo gas most of the time. When will my injectors clog up?
IMO, gasoline has all the cleaner in it you need. After all, injected cars have been common for two decades now. I'd guess percentage-wise few people used injector cleaner on a regular basis. Problems from dirty injectors seem to be far and few between.
They usually don't clog all the way. But the spray pattern that used to be a fine mist when the injectors are new, will look like a squirt bottle when the injectors are dirty. The less fine the spray, the more incomplete the burn. You don't notice it because it happens over a period of time. I'd be willing to bet that if you tried the 3 tankfill method of a bottle of Techron, you'd notice a smoother running engine, a little better throttle response and better mileage. I used to be like you, until I tried it and FELT the difference it made on my old bike
I have to vote for Sea Foam also, and it is a stabalizer too. I used to have a small engine repair shop. Some of the "little" carbs you just couldn't clean the passages in them. I have cranked one up before with Sea Foam in it and let it run behind the shop. You could hear the engine start to run better before one tank of gas was burned.
I started using it as carb cleaner in a tupperware bowl. Worked great.
For the UC, I just used a tankful of Chevron with Techron. Man, even after one tank I can tell a difference.
My idle is smoothing out nicely and my bottom end felt stronger.
I don't often comment on fuel/oil additives, but felt this one was worth sharing.
