Came home last night from a local bike nite around 9:30 or so. I live out in the country with the cows and the bugs were the worst I have seen all summer. I still have the stock windshield on my scoot, but after moving up from a sportster with no windshield to the RG I will have to say I did not catch not one bug in my teeth. As a matter of fact I did not get hit by a single bug. I think I am gonna like this touring bike gig.
Gotta love having a fairing and shield. I live out in the country too. In the year that I owned my Street Glide I got smacked by one bug. And he got me from the side. Used to be it was so bad I would use my hand to cover the lower part of my face for the last few miles home because it was like riding in a rain storm sometimes. One big one to the lip or cheeck is all it would take to keep you flinching.
There will one or two that will sneak in there everyonce in a while but yea they are great but a pain to keep clean. When you clean it you will say "How did I handle this many bugs before." Glad I got a shield..
I found a riding technique sundaythat helped not splatter so many bugs and it was to weave slightly from side to side, it "confused" the bugs and they were not able to zero in on the headlight from as far away. I live and ride in rice fields country and at night the bugs can be something to behold, actually cause the front of my bike to look hairy.
Drink and ride if you want I will not ever do it so let them pull me over and give me field sobriety test or whatever.I see where this is really funny though.
