Default fish tail pipes

Just bought my first new bike-FLHR. I have this real desire to put fishtail pipes on it. Now-a-days, when you can't rejet or retime your own engine, any thoughts on a set of pipes and the things that needs to be done to keep er runnin good?I've seen a pair of SAMSON pipes that fill the bill.

Well the "official" rule of thumb is that if you just add mufflers then you don't need to adjust for air/fuel mixture. But as lean as the '07's are, even the small amount of extra flow that the mufflers provide make me want to do a Stage 1 download or add some other fuel management system (i.e. FuelPak, PCIII, etc). Most folks are going the full Stage 1 route - air intake, pipes (mufflers or full system) and fuel management system. For about $1k, it's a definite performance enhancement.

The Samson fishtails are very stylish and reputed to be of great quality. I've heard them, and they are a little too loud for me. I went with the SE Street Performance Touring mufflers on the stock headers, along with the SE Stage 1 Intake and FuelPak. It's a great combo and runs very well. Many folks consider the SE's too quiet, but they are just right for me - maybe twice as loud as stock (whatever that means). But I don't think that they produce as much of a performance enhancement as some of the other (and louder) pipes.

I have Samson fishtail mufflers. As long as you don't change your air cleaner, you can bolt them right on.

Fishtails? Yeah, I got them! Samson drag pipes, with no baffles. I love them. And, yes, they are loud. I have a carb. When I did the stage 1, I rejetted the carb and added the SE A/C. Wish I had gone with the chrome AN BS, but what is done is done. I added theK & N element, and am happy with the set up. I just need to buy a chrome backing plate, so I can run with an open element.

Thanks for everybody's input. I like the idea of bolt on Samson's. The less futzing around with the bike the better.
