2010 UC 96" oil cooler question
Like a lot of 96" touring bikes mine is leaking at the bottom junction of the engine cases, so I don't want to add any more potential leaks to the mix. Thinking along those lines I like the fittings that the UltraCool comes with.

One thing y'all brought up that got me to thinking was the thermostat. Do any of the Jagg or UltraCool units have a thermostat? I ride year round and if I ever head up into the mountains it gets pretty cold up there. In the old days on my Shovelhead I'd just put a cover over the cooler but I'd like to avoid getting into that on this bike if possible.
Thanks again for the help.
Engine temp and the heat felt by the rider.... while related, there is only so much you can do about the heat felt by the rider...
We are sitting right on top of the engine.... in my personal riding experience, that engine has grown from 1200 cc (74ci) to my current bagger with 2035cc (124ci)...
I have an OEM oil cooler, good tune, no cat, and a set of Jason's fans... the engine seems content, and while I do get warm at times (mostly slow traffic in hot weather) I'm good..
However...... Harley came out with a fan, called the Cool Flow Fan designed to reduce the felt heat from the engine. It mounts aft the rear cylinder, and blows heat from behind the engine down and aft. It keeps the heat from radiating up to the riders. Many who use this fan report it works well...
It was originally designed for the M8 bikes (#26800128), but the MoCo has since come out with one for '09-'16 touring bikes (#26800152)...

If your engine is running well and within temp parameters, but you want to reduce the "felt heat"... the Harley Cool Flow Fan may be worth a look...
Does anyone know of any real shortcomings with the UltraCool setup?
Thanks again for all the replies I greatly appreciate them.
Cons are heat is near regulater and now I can't slide something under filter to change it, can only slide up to adapter. These two cons are probably going to be with most coolers.
I do have a cover for the unit i made which is a pain and gets dirty so a thermostat would be nice. Think i would rather have thermostat than fans now as the fans come on once in a great while with the driving i do.
Head cooling fans are a most have for my new to me 02 and I don't even plan to get a oil cooler for it
I too have a 96 that I always was concerned about in stop & go traffic, especially here in Florida. I have an excellent tune, true duals, but recently got new gauges with an oil temp sensor, and was pleasantly surprised to fine the engine did not run anywhere near as hot as I was perceiving it to.
Yesterday we had temps on the mid-90s, and at cruising speed, it was reading about 220*. I once got in to stop and go and it went up to as high as 247*, but quickly returned as soon as I got through town and back up to speed.
just bringing it up , because as others have mentioned, you might be addressing the wrong issue (radiated heat).

I'm pretty sure I am going to try the UltraCool (after a little more research) and MAYBE try out that fan that Harley makes that mounts behind the rear cylinder to aid in comfort. The two of those are going to be a heavy investment but I almost roasted yesterday due to stop and go traffic from a wreck and it was only 85 degrees at the time. The motor had gotten so hot the throttle response was getting sloppy by the time we were able to get up to speed.
