Default Front Brake Line Question

I'm looking to go with 16" Apes and was wondering, with regards to the front brake lines, if there would be any advantage to running 2 individual brake lines down from the master cyl down to each caliper respectively. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Actually, running two lines from the master has been done, but in MY own personal opinion, that tends to make that area look rather cluttered. A single line to the splitter below the lower triple tree is a much more sanitary look. There doesn't seem to be any real noticeable improvement, or otherwise of the brake operation either way. At the shop I worked at, the only bikes we did that double line with were bikes with drag bars, never with apes of any height.

Big Al’s offers a kit with two lines off the master cylinder. I too have wondered if there was any benefit to this.

Basic hydraulic principals would tell you, it makes zero difference. The small amount of fluid moved, adds up to an un- measurable amount of fluid friction loss. Not to mention, it just looks goofy!

None that I’m aware of or can think of. In fact, it’s likely to make your brakes worse.

Increasing tubing increases the amount of fluid. Brake fluid is compressible. Not by much, but it’s not zero either. So adding more adds to the compressibility, and makes the lever a little more vague.

A big jump likely would come from the increased amount of flexible tubing. That stuff does expand a bit, and normally one tries to keep its length to a minimum as a result. This looks like it’s two full runs of flex tubing, so I’d expect an appreciable increase in lever squishiness from it.

If it helped, high end sport & track bikes would have it, they don`t

In looking at the picture of that kit one other potential problem comes to mind. Look how long that bolt sticks out from the master cylinder. I know it's unlikely, but I would be concerned that it could accidentally snag on something during a drop and rip right off.

I would also think that you would have two different lines wanting to flex in two different direction depending on whether or not you were turning your bars either left or right, even with tie wraps, they will want to move differently and independently.

OP, what is your reasoning for wanting to do this? What are YOU hoping to gain from it?
