Contrast all of this you are reading to a Dealer that HD forced to close. Saturday Nov21 I totaled by bike. had it towed to the dealer. Deal was in contact with the insurance company that day. Adjuster was sent pictures he go them Monday. Dealer informed them it was totaled without question. They agreed. Purchased my new bike the same day as the crash and it was on it's way.. HD CEO wants the kind of dealers you are seeing in this thread not the ones that they closed down.
I was not charged a dime for the efforts by Mischler's HD. They removed and replace a few parts I wanted to keep with the stock parts at no charge.
Sad part is the bike I purchased was the last new Harley they would ever sell.

H-D doesn't have consumer satisfaction near the top of the list. They provide toys and accessories targeted for expendable income.

Example:
I recently had a front tire installed at my local dealer. Was told it'd be about an hour and I'd be ready to go. A little over 1-1/2 hours later the service manager tells me I have a bolt missing on one of my calipers. Everything is working as it should, he says, but they can't replace just the bolt and recommend replacing the caliper. NOPE. I rode it in and I'll ride it out. Replacing a bolt is no big deal for me. Finally I'm ready to go and guess what? No bolt missing. That and in excess of $100 over the quoted price for "Shop Supplies" tacked on to the bill which I called them on and they quickly removed. All this to exhaust money they added to my "Account" because they originally sold me a warranty I couldn't use because the bike has aftermarket tuner. Turns out it was "Flagged" and they just "Missed It" at point of sale.

I realize there's a lot of people who'll take any recommendation advised and/or just pay the bill without question but not me. I'm done with H-D Service and if I buy another bike it'll be from an individual. No more dealership transactions unless it's parts, accessories or gear.

Well, the estimate was $22,000. Wont get into all the damge, but it will be a total loss.
I asked my dealer if I could remove my new Legend shocks and replace with the oem, and get my new Love Jugs fans that my son bought me. I informed them that once everything is final, I want them when I buy a new bike. They said $120 to exchange the shocks, and that I cant have the fans back.
Thats the way they treat someone who has bought 12 bikes in 13 years. And bought my Road King from them in Jan, paid 10k for a 128 motor in Feb plus spent another 8k in wheels and upgrade parts in Jan and Feb.
Im going back tomorrow and try and talk some sence into these pepole.

So you told them you'll buy a new bike from them but they won't eat the $120 labor for removing the shocks or give you your fans back??

Even if they back down, I'd tell them to stick it. Why this dealer? Only one around?

I would talk to your adjuster about those items. 1, The fans may not even be included in the estimate. 2. The bike is NOT the dealers to decide what to do with the parts, unless they already worked a deal with your insurance co. But you should still have say so prior to final agreement with insurance. This dealer sounds like a bunch of tools are there and not the kind in the tool box!!

Until what point you sign a paper and the insurance check is cashed, the bike is still YOUR bike.... The dealer can't tell you what you can & cannot take... the insurance company decides that...

Even if the dealer threatens to re-adjust their damage estimate... OK, remove shocks and fans from the $22K estimate...

They will pressure you because they CAN control what happens in their shop... ie: they can't allow civilians in the shop due to insurance requirements, etc, etc, etc...

That is why they are giving you an inflated price to do the work to remove the items you want to keep.. Your dealer is an A$$hole... I'm assuming it's Reno Harley-Davidson..??

Too bad you didn't notice what they were really like years ago.. too often people put up with "red flags" from a dealer because of convenience

Make sure you deal with the insurance adjuster, and press the issues you want resolution of with them... NOT the dealer..

Good luck..... Be sure to let us know how this works out..

if the new shocks are included in the estimate from the insurance company, then they belong to the ins. co. (after you accept the check of course). now if they did not figure the value of the shocks in the estimate, then you should be able to swap them out. and yeah, your dealer sounds like an ***.

Shocks were not touched and not in the estimate. Now the Love Jug fans is another story. They were not touched at all, still work, not a mark on them, but they had them on the estimate to be replaced.
I informed my adjuster of that, and that I wanted them since my son bought them for me.
He said go get them.
I got ahold of a manger and they did pull the shocks and fans for $120.
Now the wait for a pay off, thankfully I owe way less than blue book, but I also have GAP.
GAP also throws 1k twords a new bike.
