I've been down HARD twice in the last 20 years , and I just can't ride in a tshirt.
Had leather the first time down and ventilated leather the second time down.
I wear a Vanson "bones" mesh jacket (with armour) when it's really hot , and it's the minimum I would ever wear.
The mesh saves me from sunburn and it breaths very well at any speed.
I'll be getting a vest for my HOG chapter rides soon , and it will go over the vanson when I ride.
Broken bones really stink , but skin grafts I hear are the worst other than deep burns.

Thank you for your advice and experence - Experence speaks LOADS - I have seen road rash on young 20 year old girls after they slid down the road with tank top and shorts... Ya, they looked Hot on the bike but will now pay for the rest of the time... when proper gear would have prevented all the rash -
I had a quick get off from a bicycle a number of years ago when a passenger in a car leaned out of the passenger window and gave me a shove. I was going 20 to 25 mph max at the time and got NASTY dirty road rash on my shoulder and leg. Clean up and healing was a painfull, oozing process. I wear ATGATT when motorcycling.
We actually do get some hot weather up here in Vermont. I wear a T-shirt made of wicking material under a mesh jacket. I think the combination is cooler than just a cotton T when I'm moving. It's hot in stop and go but so is a T-shirt.

Its all a risk and are you willing to take it?? It really does not matter until you hear a "bang" and you are in midair and saying "WAIT, I want to put on that jacket and full face" The choice is yours...
Yes. Exactly right. Same as in a head-on collision between two automobiles. Anyone in there wearing a helmet? I doubt it. Will head trauma be an issue? Probably so. Could helmets have helped prevent that trauma? Yeah, prolly so. So, what do we do, dress like we're gonna' be in the worst-imaginable crash, everytime we drive/ride? The choice is yours.....
White mesh jacket from Tourmaster if I'm going into town or farther. I still love to ride down to the beach and leave the gear at home.
p.s. ATGATT=all the gear all the time
