ok...so I must admit I like going with my sleeveless shirts when I ride. But I do sometimes think about if I ever were to go down.....hmmmm....wonder what the "burn thru" rate on skin is?
I sure would never wear my leather.....so what's left is mesh. So let me hear from the "mesh" guys....can you ride comfortably in 90+ degree heat with these jackets??.......and I dont want to end up looking like the sport bike boys either.
Maybe I'm gettn' old but I'm starting to count the risk.....some anyway!
yes mesh works great... actually better than a t-shirt if you can believe it. When your moving the air that comes thru feels real good as your sweating. Without the shirt the sweat just evaporates ASAP. Now if your stuck in traffic it can get a little stifling but not too bad and you are keeping the sun from heating up your skin.
Protection is the other reason i prefer the mesh, It's armored in all the right places that would take the hit. It's also supposed to hold up in a fall, tho i wouldn't want to test it...
edit: forgot to add i use the FirstGear Mesh-Tex... Silver color if it matters.
It's been pretty hot the past few days inMA; mid to upper 90's. Even when it gets this hot I still wear my perforated leather jacket when riding the interstate. On side roads I switch to the leather vest. I'm sure people see me leaving work in these temps in my leather jacket think I'm nuts, but I'd rather be hot than have road rash.
Mesh works Good... Here is Palm Springs Ca.... Were ever mesh jackets are HOT!!!.... We tend to wear long sleve cotton shirts and vest... 90% of the time...
Here in Florida, we wear mesh 9 months out of the year.
I have three--a Firstgear that is 4 years old and not much used anymore, an Olympia which is silver, has a killer liner, and is very well made, and a Vanson, which has very open mesh and flows the most air but has no extras--liner, pockets ---nothing . It's more of a shirt than a jacket.
I like the Olympia best, but wear the Vanson when it's really hot--it's like wearing nothing except when you stop for a light. (It's black and absorbs heat)
I recommend you get a light color (silver).Black will cook you in slow traffic.
I previously owned a Joe Rocket mesh jacket, and recently purchased the new H-D mesh jacket. Both are great as long as you are moving, but when you stop, they are considerably warmer than just a T-shirt.
I live in the capital of HOT here in Florida. I've got an HD Switch Blade jacket that's mesh with built in armor etc. It's a great jacket and relatively cool even in the high 90's with high humidity. I figure better safe than sorry. Road rash is a nasty, nasty thing.
