South Texas is starting to warm up again and my leather jacket is just too hot to wear. I've been wearing a leather vest but would kind of like a little more protection on my arms and shoulders when riding in traffic. So, what are y'all wearing during the HOT months where the highs are in the 100° range for months on end?
Some of the mesh jacket reviews talk about being comfortable at 85° but what about 100°?

Thanks!
You are not really "south" TX. I live in the Rio Grande Valley! This IS south tx! LOL. Anyways, it's hotter than hell here and this is the best thing since sliced bread: BOHN Airtex Shirt. it has a tight but stretchy fit. Great protection and great airflow. I use it everyday. I have not used my Revit airwave jacket since May. It will probably be stored until October!. Good luck.
screw the jacket, I ride in a t-shirt. At least I ain't going down from passing out fron heat exhaustion.
it is actually cooler to wear a mesh jacket over your tshirt. protects you from the sun, helps keep you from getting dehydrated. plus, if it gets really hot, you can always wet down your t shirt and put your jacket over it. it won't dry out as quick as if you wore just your t shirt.
that is also why i have a cup holder on my bike. i don't ride anywhere without a cup of ice water with me. everytime we stop, i top off with ice. dehydration is a bitch, and when you notice that you have symptoms, its too late.
Mesh jackets are the only jackets I can wear in the sweltering summer heat. Once you're moving it's as close to built in air conditioning as you can get on a bike and offers much better protection than a T-shirt and is cooler too. If you wear a sweat wicking t-shirt, like UnderArmour, under the mesh jacket that's about as good as it gets.

Riding when the temp is 93 degrees or over, you want to cover your skin. The same way wind chill keeps you cool when the temp is below 93 degrees, the wind actually increases the amount of heat that enters your body when the temp is above 93 degrees. Works just light a convection oven. Not only will you bake, but you'll be nice and crispy
Over 90 degrees I use an evaporative vest and a mesh jacket. That is about as comfortable as you can be when it gets really hot.
From: South Carolina-First to secede and hopefully the next.
We've only seen a few days of 90 degree days so far, but the First Gear Rush jacket seems to be doing OK. It seems like it's actually cooler than a T shirt.....keeps that hot sun from beating down on me.
So far so good. We'll see as the summer gets into high gear.
