Wont shift into first
On a ride today, after leaving HD store, the foot lever for shifter came off the shifter shaft. Was stuck in second gear. I limped back to the HD service center in second gear, about a mile.
Service tech came out and reinstalled the shifter petal and put in a new screw, was about closing time. Didn't charge me anything. Thanks Falcons Fury HD, Conyers Ga.
When leaving I could not get it to shift into first. It would go down to neutral and shift to 2,3,4,5 so I came home with it. Any ideas why it now won't shift into first.

It's off a few splines. Just guessing but the distance between first and second is more movement.
Can't really tell if you have a heel and toe. But sometimes is hitting on them since there is really not a gear or position to be in to set.
Levers positions are adjustable with spline and rod position. Harley does not have left and right hand thread ends, so both need to be removed unlike metrics.
Put it in neutral, and walk it fwd trying to push to first. At the limit of stroke, see what is hitting.

Usually the tranny shift lever is about at the 11 o'clock position. If he installed it one or 2 splines counter clockwise (10 o'clock?) you won't have enough travel to get into 1st gear.
Easy fix, just position the shift lever at 11 o'clock, tighten the bolt.

Problem solved.
As stated, The Tech replaced the screw in the shift lever to push rod arm. I found that he used a longer screw. That's a big NO-NO.
The longer screw was hitting the case and would not let the petal go down far enough. I didn't have another screw so I removed the arm, tightened the screw down with the spline shaft removed, Went to the bench grinder and shortened the screw, Problem solved. Was not the petal hitting but the screw.
Test ride was great as usual

Glad you got it worked out. Thanks for the update.
Now, for my two cents. If the service tech can’t use the proper fastener and he can’t install the lever in the correct position, I can’t imagine the trouble he would have with more complex repairs. Yeah, I know it was free, but damn...
