To answer the original question , the interval for manual adjustments to the primary chain is 5K miles.

The Baker Attitude Adjuster didn't work well for me. The updated OEM version is serving me well now.

BTW, I wouldn’t want to have to pull the outer primary cover every 5K miles just to adjust the adjuster. If there was an and judgment window, I might have considered that.

Ain’t no way I would want to open the primary every 5k miles. That’s why I have the Hayden

Mine has a OEM manual adjuster. It has 50,000 miles on it. It took around 30,000 to finally groove the outer links into the tensioner. Once there, chain was on the rollers on tensioner which of course rolled on it and wear ceased.

My chain does have some typical uneven wear, so chain slack varies as you check it in various increments.

I bumped it up one notch. This does make one area at 3/8 play which is a little tight. The looses area is about 5/8.

Works for me. One click removes about 1/4 chain slop.

I personally think the auto adjuster was just something Harley did to appease buyers and was not necessary. The maintenance call out was not necessary and was the biggest problem.

Those who beat their bikes probably disagree but the auto adjuster causes problems for them too. Beating a Harley causes crazy uneven chain wear. The auto sets on the loose area and is too tight in others.
