Well the only touring you would get done is charging station to charging station. Dealers would love you since they charge you so you can get a charge

Except I ride all over the country, from gas station to gas station, and avoid interstates. Not many charging stations in the boonies.

As I’m considering the purchase, I would like to know if the SGS is due for a major or “all new” kinda update. An update where they change a headlight or handlebar is one thing, but I’m talking about significant changes like chassis, drivetrain, etc. any ideas ?
My guess is if you had ridden a SG or touring bike at all you wouldn't be asking this question, as everyone I know including myself after riding one got rid of their softail.

Since you don't know me, maybe my vote won't count.... but....

When I bought my first bagger in 2012, I was going to sell my 2003 Heritage. I took it for one last ride before listing it for sale, and I couldn't bring myself to sell it....

The Heritage has a different ride & feel than the bagger... not really better or worse, just different. I decided to keep it and I'm glad I did....

Don't get me wrong, while I had no issues doing multi-day trips on my Heritage prior to the bagger, I now use the bagger exclusively, for any longer, multi-day trips.... but I still ride the Heritage on day rides and around town a lot... I really wouldn't want to have only the bagger....

At 64 yrs old, I know a day will come when the bagger may be a little too much for me. When that day comes, I will have no problem switching back to the Heritage...

Hell, my 2001 Springer FXSTS is even lighter and easier to handle than the Heritage...maybe one day I will sell the Heritage and finish my riding years on the Springer...

Time will tell....

I'm not sure when....probably a couple more years....but the rest of the family going to mono shocks, water cooling, and now the PANAM motor....I'd expect to see all 3 in the touring line up at some point. Better suspension and 150+hp is fine by me!

I completely agree. All these liberal millennials going through the motions, doing the least possible, acting like the fact that they simply showed up to work is doing everyone a favor. Then again, these days it’s hard to find people to even reliably show up.

im very concerned and disappointed with the way the country is heading, I work my *** off, and I’m starting to think it may be worth it to be less of a saver and more of a life enjoyer. I spend too much energy wanting to stick to my 5, 10, 20 year plan… but in the end, only the man upstairs known what’ll happen. That’s why I’m thinking screw it and buy a second bike. The sgs for the longer rides with wife and thr fatboy will be my neighborhood hot rod and day trips.

I come from the motocross racing world. Typically, the production cycle is four years then they design an “all new” bike. Actually, the last race bike I bought is an 08 Honda 450r. The last year of that generation. In 09, they switched to fuel injected, new frame… everything. That whole four year cycle was considered by most, a dud. Then the next cycle, still a dud. It wasn’t til the past couple years redesign that they based much of it on the 08 geometry and engine that now the Honda has respect again. Look it up, the 08 is still a sought after bike without question.

so no, I’m not looking to get the first year of an all new sgs, I would at least wait til 2nd year to get the bugs out.

I wouldn’t mind a major update to SGS that is really just a hand me down from another bike like a cvo. If I bought sgs, and the next year it has the audio or 117 from a cvo, cause they upped the ante on the cvo, that would be frustrating.

Same think is going on in the aerospace industry as well. That's why I will never fly again.
