I had the opportunity to ride a Sreamin' Eagle Ultra Classic this weekend atthe Demo Days at our local dealership. One thing I noticed right away was the difference in how the radio must be wired to the power source. When I turn my '06 ignition switch to the on position, the radio "boots up", when I hit the start button to fire up the bike, the radio "re-boots". On the '08 the radio "boots up" when I put the ingnition switch in the on position, but doesn't "re-boot" when you start the bike. I like this a lot better than the way mine is wired. Does anyone know what I need to change to have the '06 work the way the '08 does?
8.19 is the latest version as far as I know, but I have heard there are problems with it. version 8.09? is on HogTunes website. You may want to try that. I have an 07 and will check to see what mine does when i get ready to go home, but from memory it stays on when i push the start button. I will double check.
I finally remember to check my radio. I turned the master power on the bike. Radio booted. I then started the bike and radio stayed on. 07 RG. Hope this helps
Here is the answer I got from Harley Technical Support:
The previous radio (Radio Sound)needed the power interupted during starts to protect it. This was done through the starter relay. When the start button is pushed, the relay shuts off power to the radio as it turns on power to the starter solenoid. This system was carried into the '06 model year. In testing, they found that the new radio no longer needed this. As a product improvement, the radio power circuit was changed, so that radio power remains on during starts.Unfortunately, this is not an easy retrofit because a '07 main harness will not fit a '06 bike without modification due to connector changes.
