Default Stebel wiring

I installed a Stebel air horn today. The exsiting HD wiring just plugged in to the new horn and the horn appears to work just fine. (Loud) The instructions say to use the relay that comes with it. Does any one know if installing the way that I did will hurt anything?

Thanks'
Mark

The air horns will draw much more current than the stock horn, 8A for the Rivcos I have vs. 1A for stock, and all the air-horn kits I've seen use relays. This is because the stock wiring is small and drawing that much current through them may cause problems over time, perhaps even a burned wire, connector, or the horn switch itself--none of which are designed to carry that much current. The relay uses the stock horn wires for the tripping circuit and the main power should come directly from the battery, with a fuse in-line.

Will wind up burning out the switch wires making the switch inop. I would hate to have to replace those wires... I think it would be easier to run the relay. I just did it with my Mini-Beast and i was a snap.

Exactly what the others have said...yer pullin' a LOT more amperage through that horn - over time, it WILL do damage. You'll notice it about the time the Smoke Devil comes ta visit. You know the Smoke Devils - they exhibit themselves as white wisps that smell like sumthin' burnin' an' mean sumthin' expensive...

Yes...do yourself a favor and wire it correctly with a relay.

This is why I ask. The instructions are so vague I had no idea what the pull was.

I all ways have time to do it right the second time

Thanks'

We are running two (2) of the HD High Out Put horns behind the fairing on the Cop Glide.

We utilized an Eastern Beaver Dual Horn harness and have seen no issues with the power/heat draw from using both honrs at the same time.

Good Luck
