Hi Mark:
Whatcha looking at? "Good deals" can sometimes be obvious; other times, not so much... gotta know the market in your area, whether you're inclined to look elsewhere, how motivated a buyer you are (are you itchin to get a bike or are you itchin to own THIS bike?), what overall condition the bike is in, and the asking price. I always try to not be too enthusiastic about any bike I'm looking to buy, which can be hard sometimes. (the heart wants what the heart wants) I recommend that you look at it as objectively as possible and pay only what YOU are comfortable with...A "good deal" in my area may seem like a ripoff in others, so negotiate and pay what you can afford and be happy with whatever you decide; not what someone else across the country might think...

You might want to ask the forum about any historical issues or good/bad experiences with the year/model you're looking at? That might give you something to check out or ask the seller...

just my 2 cents...

You can post your questions about price in the same location you ask this question. There is not a pricing forum.
Now is a tough time to buy a bike with new supply being somewhat limited and that is pushing up the price of used. If you can wait a couple of months you can save a few $$. Prices on used should go down as the weather cools and the holidays approach. The 2022s will be out late January, early February and that will put more used bikes in the market.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for a 2009 and up Road King and I like chrome. Black is my color of choice. I've seen pictures of many different colors that are great looking bikes. But another member on here told me, if you want black don't settle for another color. I also want ABS, rider and passenger backrest with luggage rack, fangs (maybe), detachable tour pack eventually. Reading on here seems like a seat upgrade is a must.

There is a dealer about 5-6 hours away that has a 2015 Black RK loaded with extras:
- Corbin Seat
- soft zip on lowers
- fangs
- Rider and passenger backrest with luggage rack
- ABS
- Chrome guards on the top and sides of the saddlebags
- new tires
- 41046 miles on it
- They sent me 9 pages of service records.
From the pictures and video it appears to be in great shape.
Their internet price is $13995.00
My out the door price is $15068.79

They will not or have not to this point negotiated one bit.

Sounds a little high for 41k miles and 6 model years old. A new black RK w/o RDRS is only about $20k. The upgrades are nice and are things you would not have to purchase later. Good they have a lot of service records. Where in NC are you located?

I use Black Book Powersports to get an idea of whether a price is good or not. Per Black Book:

Year: 2015
Make: Harley-Davidson
Model: FLHR Road King
Model Type: Cruiser
Displacement: 1690
Cylinders: 2
VIN: 5HD1FBMAF
Finance Advance: $12,710
MSRP: $18,449
Avg Retail: $14,125
Auction Wholesale $11,860
Clean Trade: $11,530
Fair Trade: $10,510

Since they are a dealer, and the asking price is below Average Retail, it's not a bad deal.... IMHO

For me, the nine pages of maintenance records is worth a lot...!! You rarely get that kind of maintenance history with a used bike. It suggests they may have sold the bike new, and the prior owner had them do most (if not all) the maintenance.

You certainly will be able to find a 2015 with fewer miles on it, there are a lot of "garage Queens" out there. However, if those maintenance records don't show any recurring issues, I wouldn't be concerned about the mileage... I might try to use it to get a slight price reduction.. I'll bet they played up the mileage during the trade-in discussions and didn't give much over the "fair trade" price of $10,500. So IMHO, they have some room to work with..

Of course, I would want to see it in person to make any final decision. Pictures can hide some of the bad, and accentuate the good. If you know Harleys (or can take someone with you who does), there are things you will only spot during an in-person inspection..

Good luck on your bike purchase...

That's what I was thinking, a little high for the mileage. I will say though, I been looking for a while and price watching, most dealers will ask at $1500 - $2000 more than the model years. For example a 2015 they will ask $16500 to $17000 no matter how many miles are on the bike. Most private sellers ask close to the model year, ie a 2012 they will ask around $12000.

I'm right in the middle of NC, between Asheboro and Pinehurst.
