If your like me an like the power...then do the 08. I had an 06 Streetglide and sold it once I heard the 07's were going to have the 96" and six speeds and could not be happier. I have not had one issue in the 7k plus miles I have logged, and the power difference is very noticable. I don't care for the extra heat the 96"er produces, but that would happen if i put a 95" kit in the TC 88 too. To me if your just adding to your exsiting loan and don't have to come out of pocket (cash) then go for the new one. It has some great new features over the 06 models. Your not just paying $6500 for the motor you know. Your 06 Ultra has depreciated at least $4k by now and your basically getting a bigger motor (96"), 6 speed, bigger tank, brembo brakes, contoured gas consol, fly by wire throttle, larger axels, and some nice tweeks in the motor to make it preform/run smoother overall for a mere $2500...if just depends on how you look at. I say go for it, you will be glad, I know I am.

You have an 06 and 6500 seems pretty high. I looked into trading my 02 FLHTC and it was about the same for a 08 FLHTC. At least yours is newer than mine however mine is set the exact way I want it, has less than 20k miles, and runs perfect. This is my first HD and do not know how long they run until major repairs are needed and that is why I am considering a change. I am **** about the upkeep on my ride and it still looks new. Would like to have a new virgin though. Looked at 07's but think the 08's may have more to offer as my HD dealer is still getting msrp plus addons plus everything else and is not willing to deal.

hog50, I too have an 06 ultra and have looked into trading it for an 08. I have 17k on mine and I,m tired of taking it back to 2 different dealers to try to get it fixed. The last time I checked I,ve taken it in for repairs/ troubleshooting. 22 times in 16 momths!!! It still will not idle sometimes or runs away with itself. They keep saying bear with us and we will get to the bottom of the problem. Still waiting.

Keep the 06................................................ ..........
I've got an 06 with the 88and don't want any 96.A 96 is only an88 stroker. It will have a short life as all strokers do. I'm so happy I have an 88 motor.
HD will have to make some serious changes before I get another new bike.

ORIGINAL: hawg50

i presently own an 06 ultra that im considering trading on an 08 model.i talked to a salesman this afternoon, and he told me i could trade up for around $6500.00.what do you guys think about the price?my ultra has 10k miles, and some extras, such as rinehart true duals and some chrome stuff added.lets hear the comments.
I guess I'm the odd man out here, but I'd say GO FOR IT! That sounds like a good price, but I'd also suggest to get the ABS braking. I have it on two BMW bikes but not the Harley, and I'd say it is the best feature that you hope you'll never have to use. I really think that with the 96" motor, the six speed, the larger tank, and the ABS, you'll have one helluva bitchin' touring bike. It's hard to imagine better...

For me, it depends on why you want to trade. If you really want an '08, who am I to tell you different? That being said, there are a few options that the '08 has that I would like. First, and foremost, ABS. A bigger tank, and a six speed. The 96" is not a factor for me, as a good 98" GMR kit will blow the socks off a 96". I thought about trading my '05 for a '07, and I am glad I didn't. My bike is paid for, and I don't want a payment. For $6500, I could do a lot to my bike, and not have to worry about EPA guidlines. It also seems, that with the '08, it will be harder for the shade tree mechanic to work on the bike. As far as I have read, so far, the ABS will be a dealer only service. Do you really want to be at the mercy of the dealer? But, if you have your heart set on a new bike, go for it. For me, if I REALLY want something, I get it. reguardless of price. Where there is a will/want, there is a way.

No way I would trade even up for my 06. The 06 models are great bikes and with only 10,000 miles I would do like the others said. Write a list of parts you want for $6500.00 and have fun!!
