I've ordered parts from them in the past that I knew would not be stock items and would have to be ordered. Didn't mind waiting. But last week I placed an order for docking hardware and they said it was special order and the wait for me to get it would be two weeks or more. Well I didn't want to wait that long for a common item that should be kept in stock. I called Jenni at Charlie's last Wednesday and even though it was backordered it is still due to be here today. I'll still probably order from Chicago from time to time if it is something that I am in no hurry to get.
I ordered on 7/25/07 & have heard nothing at all. They charged my credit card almost right away but never even sent an e-mail or called me to confirm my order. Great prices but they lack customer service. I got no response to 3 e-mails I sent. I called once but got no-where in regards to my order status. I agree with most - if you can afford to wait thenorder fromthem, but if you need parts within a week go elsewhere!
I orderd some Lowers, (primered) got them the next day. I have placed over $1,000.00 in orders since then and still have not recieved anything. Going on 3 weeks for some Passing Lamp Bulbs.
Not Good![:@]
Try this guy http://www.mandmcycles.com/about 15% off and drop ships most items. I orderd a Thundermax from him, the best price I could find and very fast response, emails, phone calls,,,They stay on top of it!
I ordered lowers and cruise control its been about three weeks I was hoping to have them before a september trip so Im not upset yet. For the amount of money saved I can live with the wait.
I agree, low prices, NO customer service. I called them and checked everything was in stock as I needed it quickly. Anyway long story short, they waited around for a week before pulling my order and then sent it via ground. I called to find out where my stuff was (getting nervous) and it was waiting in shipping to be picked up by the carrier. I asked to have the shipping upgraded to overnight so they transferred me to a guy in shipping. Absolutely no communication skills. I asked to have it upgraded to overnight, I was told (with a really bad attitude) that he "would have to pull it from where it was, reweigh it, and reprice it". I said "So how much extra is it going to cost?" He was "I don't know, probably and extra $25". I said "Fine, I'll pay it" and he HUNG UP on me. I did get it next day and the extra shipping was exactly $25. This after I had ordered it well in advance and they had told me it was in stock. This was a fairly light order of about $300, but I had spent over $1000 on my previous order. I'll never order from them again. There are plenty others out there that want my buisness.....
I ordered something from Chicago HD on 7/20/07 on 7/28/07 they said it was processed as of 7/29/07 it is now a special order. No one ever contacted me or gave the chance to order somewhere else. I have sent them e-mail but no responses. They sure didn't waste time hitting my account for the money though. Has anyone had this type of problem with them?
Zanotti's usually has lower prices, but their shipping is usually higher. If you have a big order you'll probably save money over Chicago, who charges a fixed 20% under MSRP, while Zanotti's discount varies. I suspect they're using an undisclosed percentage over cost, the cost varying from item to item. Just my guess.
I've had Chicago delay an order one month without an explanatory email, yet others have shown up in due time. My understanding is that they don't keep an inventory for their internet sales, thus everything is ordered. Zanotti's also has an inventory URL you can check for in-stock items, then email them for availability if time is a factor. In my experience they've been very responsive.
This issue has come up several times on the forum. Personally, I have ordered from Chicago HD and liked the prices but did have to wait a longer than normal period to get parts. I had read on HDF they were slow so I ordered long before I needed my parts to give them time to get them to me. You also have to look at the total cost of your order in relation to the discount. Wait 2 weeks on a $8 oil filter, get 20% off and 5 bucks shipping is not worth it. Lowers, seat, backrest and foot pegs all in one shot, you bet! There are other online retailers that will give the same discount. If you are not happy with ChiHD, use someone else.
I have ordered thru Chicago as have some other friends in this area and all of us have experienced about a 3 week wait for the items to arrive and immediate charge on the credit card.
I then ordered from Charlies HD, and Jenni was great to deal with. Had the entire order placed and taken care of in under 10 minutes and the bulk of the order arrived 5 days later ( weekend in the middle). Two items were back ordered and one was received the following week and the last item the week later. I was given 20% off of the entire order and am totally happy with this entire experience.
