Default Check engine indicator light?

2006 Road King Classic. Out for a ride tonight and the check engine and battery indicator light came on simultaneously. Bike was running fine when I parked it. I don't have an electronics manual. Can anyone get me headed the right direction?

Most likely either the stator or voltage regulator if I had to guess. There's a sticky here on the site that takes you through the steps to check each one for any issues.

Most likely a charging system malfunction, I would think. The bike should show a code if it is. You need an accurate multi-meter, and the voltage measurements for the alternator output, and for DC out voltage from the regulator. Don't have the numbers in my head, but the info is sure to be online somewhere easy to find. The very first thing I would do, however, is check that all the wires on the regulator, both input and dc output are fastened securely .Either one being loose is unlikely, but stranger things have happened. Check he battery cables for looseness or corrosion. Also, a load test of the battery is in order here, just to rule out the battery as the problem. Do all the diagnostic tests you can before spending any money replacing things.

Not sure if you’re the original owner since new, however 2006 touring bikes had a voltage regulator recall. Perhaps yours was one of the affected units and finally gave up the ghost.

If all wire connections are tight it is most likely the voltage regulator. The exact same symptoms popped up on my '08 Heritage this summer and that's what was causing it.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. Had the dealer check Vin for any history on warrenty issues or recalls, none. Was going to try some troubleshooting yesterday. Started bike, no indicator lights, voltage at 14.3. Went for a hour+ ride, everything normal, no lights. I guess I'll have to let it develop. Will post update when I figure it out

OMG! Get it checked out. It WILL take a dump at the most inopportune time.

An example might be as you're slipping out of your misstress' house as her WWE boyfriend comes home. And, well, wrrrrrllll, click, click, nada.
