Default Camshaft position sensor code 42

Ok guys I have been trying to get my bike to run right for awhile now but am still getting a engine light that won’t go away. So here is what I have done so far 1 cleaned the throttle body 2. Reset the TPS .275 and .717 3. Cleaned, checked and regreased all electrical connections with dielectric grease 4. Checked, cleaned and tightened all grounds I could find. 5. Pulled the camshaft position sensor and checked for wear or rubbing “looked fine” pulled the positive lead and let it sit for 15 minutes to clear historic codes. Went to start the bike and engine light was still on so I went for a 5 mile test ride engine light stayed on the whole time till I got back home and right before I shut the bike down the light went off. So now I guess my question is what did I do wrong and do I change the CPS? I am doing all this because I am getting the ECU reflashed and dyno’d in a few weeks to get rid of the power commander that is currently on the bike. This is a 2000 road king EFI with MM

I'd take it for a ride again and see if the light is on or off. If it is off you may have fixed it. Probably a poor connection on a 21-year-old bike. If it is still on I would not do anything else with the bike until you find the culprit. I am not sure about the 2000 service manual but the1998 SM has a flow chart to help chase down trouble codes.
