this is the light that comes on when you turn the ignition on and the kill switch on. you wait til it goes out and then hit the starter. i noticed (and maybe just now noticed) that mine goes out and then i start the motor. then it comes back on for about 2-3 secondes and then goes back out. if i go thru the cycle again it does not come on after the bike starts. but if i park it for a few hours it does it again. maybe it's been doing it and i just haven't noticed til today. maybe not. the bike runs fine as always. 30+ psi oil pressure and no issues. maybe i'm just paranoid. hate to go to a dealer and pay for nothing.
just wondering if anybody else's bike is doing this..
thanks
Sounds like a stored code. Check the codes and see what code you get. Then clear the code and that will stop doing that. Or, wait 50 engine cycles and it will clear itself.
here are my codes:
p0132 front oxygen sensor hi
p151 rear oxygen sensor low
p152 rear oxygen sensor hi
p1511 efi power manual mode
p2102 efi mot circuit low
what the hell does that mean? is it ok to drive? runs great....
ok...i think i cleared the code(s). i went into the codes, brought up a code, and held the button til "cleared" came up. this time only one code came up instead on 4 or 5 like the first time. then restarted the bike and did not have the engine light come on. am i correct in thinking this must be an old (historic) code?

I have exactly the same symptoms. . .How do you check the codes? Buy a code reader?

go to search and look up "engine codes". there are a couple of good threads that tell you how to pull codes and then have a legend for what they mean.
to get your codes (my bike is a 09) turn your kill switch to run, hold down the odometer button, and turn the ignition on. you should see your tach and speedo "sweep" and "program" come up on your mileage/odometer area. then cycle thru to get codes.
again, look up those threads. they are very thorough. good luck.

My '08 does this from time to time (at least when I notice it). But, usually when warm and for example, when I get gas and restart the bike. It gets a slightly lumpy idle and the light may stay on for a couple seconds. Cold start, no light.
My idle is set to 950 RPM so she idles a tad lower when warm and restarted. Have not checked codes. Bike runs very good as it always has.
