Rode my newly acquired 2001 Road King yesterday for the first cold weather ride and the first time with the windshield on. The shield is the standard 19.75 in. and the top is level with my eyes. The wind came over the top and down to my face and if I lowered my head below the top of the shield line it was great. The wind also came around the sides into my air pocket space. I am use to the buffeting issue from my 2007 FLHTC and was one of the issues that I disliked. The purpose of this post is to ask other tall Road King owners what they use for this issue? I went online today and was gona order the 21 inch Clearview Recurve to get that extra 1.25 inch in height, with the efect of the recurve will also raise the windflow another 1.5 to 2 in. over head. I am also considering the 2 inch. wider shield that should help on cold rides. I have the Harley Fork Fangs and the soft lowers already on that seem to help some. I was gona order it today but ask the guy if they were gona have any SALES thru December and he said they would during the last week of the year. He would not commit to the sale price so I am just gona wait. Has any anyone used this size recurve shield
and if you have, how did you like it and what would you recommend. ( I know that some are gona say, If ya don't want the wind in your face, Buy a Car. I like rideing in the wind but not the with the windchill) Thanks in advance for any input and Ride Safe !!
You should be looking over the top about an inch when sitting in our normal position.
So on that note, if you do have the talent, the stock windscreen can be trimmed down the needed amount, so your not dropping another $150 on a new one that you would still have to use the old hardware on. If you don't have the tallent to trim it down without cracking it, talk to a plexiglass shop in your area to find someone that can trim it down (should cost around $50, and again, a lot easy then replacing the windshield and having to rebind the old stripping back on to the new one).
Thanks Senior Rider, I'm a Senior Rider also, I turned 72 in Sept. I sold my 07 FLHTC about 6 mts ago because of health issues and knew I had made a mistake as the new owner rode out of my driveway. It's been many years sense I did not own a Harley so I bought this 2001 RK to have a toy to play with. I will still not ride it that much but its there if I want to roll a short ride. I will most likely just keep what I got and leave it stock . Thanks for your reply, Ride Safe
