On the initial question(s), I'll be more specific...The changes I noticed are the sound of the bike and where power/torque was gained and lost
Came here looking for info, not a multi-part cliffhanger. Went away feeling empty.

First off...what 585 cams? Everyone seems to believe S&S, I'm thinking SE, big difference between them...what are we comparing? Personally, having a Power Commander on it isn't a top shelf whiskey.

Ah....You're right I didn't put SE before the 585 --- It was all done while under a very long extended warranty so....I do understand the S&S 585 has more overlap and potentially a much different result and likewise in a good powervision flash with the power commander removed.

When I bought the bike with 500 miles on it, it had Rinehart 4" slip-ons and that's it.

It was under an extended warranty so I got rid of the stock heads, kept them in my garage in case and went with a S&S High flow intake, Power Commander and tuned it.
Doing this gave me +20TQ and +15HP

...then I screwed up and went to the SE585 cams and as I mentioned, I gain no torque or horsepower after the new tuning . . . tuning isn't cheap and neither were the SE585 cams
...the only thing that happened was that the previously referred to TQ & HP moved out to 3,500rpm so I lost a ton off the line all so I could feel the cams coming on in 6th at 90mph
...this is not what I was looking for...

...as for sound, . . . well that's a tough one to explain in text so I'll say this - When I bought the bike I financed an expensive Shoei modular helmet (Neotec).
...after the cams were done I couldn't wear the helmet...

After doing the intake, headers & tuning I went to Shoei and at no charge they mapped and fitted the helmet to my head so it fit perfectly -
It was great for when I wanted to wear a full face helmet in cold or rainy weather

...not only is the sound of the bike way smoothed out, the frequency is so low that a full-face helmet catches the frequencies in a way that even earplugs can't stop.- It's like the frequencies go straight to your brain.
....I thought it was only me but one day the service manager said to me, after taking my bike for a test drive, "Dude, I don't know how you can ride that fkn thing!!!! I think my body was affected by the tone and I couldn't fkn stand it!" . . . It was after this that I knew it wasn't just me....My answer was, "Yah, I don't wear my $600.00+ Shoei because of that and it was never like that before you guys did the cams"

...after the cams were done I couldn't wear the helmet ...that was 5 years ago...the bike is now out of warranty...

I've done quite a bit of research over these past 5 years while I 've kind of gotten used to it but every time I hit 3,500rpm and I feel those cams come on I'm reminded of that power that I'd like to have a bit earlier.

Most of my results have led me to needing more compression (like a 107 or 110)) along with a oil cooler and cam plate along with getting rid of the Power Commander and having a good Power Vision tune done.

...that's where I'm at...

Sounds like those cams need to be advanced 4 degrees to move the powerband down. Degreeing the cams in is something not normally done with motorcycles for some reason, and it is really an important aspect of changing cams.
