Bluetooth Upgrade
Hey all!! I recently bought a 2009 Ultra Classis with the factory HK Advanced Stereo. I was looking at different options to blue tooth my phone to the factory stereo so I can play either the music on my phone or stream through Spotify or similar apps. Another member had told me about the Metra Saddle Tramp BT-HD01 that works with the 2006-2013 Electra Glides, and as far as I know the Ultra is the Electra with a few more options It retains the handle bar controls as far as volume and song scrolling, which is what I want. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who has this system on their Harley. Let me know the good, bad, like, dislike. I'd be interested in your review of this system.. If you have installed this yourself on your bike, I'm curious....did you have an amp hooked up to your stereo as well. I have Hog Tunes installed on my system, and am not sure if having the amp will affect the way this installs, or possibly not allow it to work at properly or install at all.
Thanks in advance for any info guys!!
Merry Christmas to you all!!

Jensen makes a replacement head unit. My buddy used it for the past several years, worked well. Another buddy of mine had this little Bluetooth dongle that plugs into the headphone port of the factory radio. it was like $10 or something.

Been using the Metra saddle tramp close to 5 years. Like lefty, I have no complaints. The amp doesn't cause any issues. Some people say it doesn't pick up well if you put your phone in the tour pak but I never put my phone e back there so I can't comment on that. I can say that I had some issues with my phone connecting when it was in my pants pocket and the unit was mounted on top of my radio. I changed amps and didn't have enough room on top of the radio so I used velcro tape and mounted it to the bottom of the radio. I haven't had any connection issues since whether it's in my pants pocket, coat pocket, windshield bag or handlebar mount. It was worth the money for me.
I added a $10 BT plug-in that powers through the cig lighter so it doesn't need to be recharged.
It doesn't work with the factory hand controls, but once the BT source is selected on the head unit, the skip/FFD/playlist/etc. functions swap to my phone (which is mounted on the left bar).
I almost never use it though because I have a BT helmet which is far easier to hear at speed.

Question - I have looked all over the forum and was wondering if you can talk over your phone with the Saddle Tramp installed? I called Metra and they didn't know but thought it was possilbe. I would think it would work through the stock radio since it's a bluetooth signal? My next thought would be wireless bluetooth headset but not sure that would work with the CB? Would be installing it on my 2012 Ultra Classic with the stock HD head unit with CB

No...you are not able to talk on the phone with the Saddle Tramp system. I though the same, and once I had mine all hooked up and working, I tried calling my son while the music was being blue toothed from my phone. The music just shuts off and the call goes through the phone as normal. Nothing comes out of the bikes speakers. Then when you end the call, the music resumes. Now if you use Google maps for directions, it WILL announce the directions over the sound system, just muted the music while it announces. But no....phone does not work with it
Otherwise, it's a really good system.
Hope this helps.

I also have the Hogtunes bluetooth unit and find that it works just fine. I replaced my stock radio with the sony radio from Fathead cycles. The radio came with bluetooth however i think the Hogtunes unit is far better as far as sound. My first unit went bad quickly but Hogtunes was great about correcting the issue and sending out replacement rather quickly. So far so good. My unit is hooked up into my 2008 ultra.
