I'm wanting to install an aftermarket exhaust on my 21 Road Glide. I want to install the Cobra Neighbor Haters, I had them on last bike and I like the sound,
I'm told I'll need to upgrade the intake and install a tuner and also told has to be done by an authorized dealer or it'll void the bike warrantee. I don't want to void the warrantee and I don't want to pay the inflated cost for something I can do myself.. For example the $600 first oil change they said they had to do for the warrantee. I was expecting a multipoint inspection along with the oil change but when i asked what all was checked, they said just the oil change..
any input on the exhaust will be helpful thanks..

They cant make you use their service to maintain a warranty. That's illegal. Slip on mufflers alone will not void your warranty. Tuning will (with an aftermarket tuner), as will removing the catalytic converter from the head pipe.
I'm not removing the catalytic converter and really don't want to install a tuner, just want to install the slip-on's and maybe a better breather
I've installed slip ons and am pleased with the results. I'm happy with the intake I have now stock. Unless I'm going to install a much bigger cam or pistons there's no real benefit for me to change the air filter. Just changing the mufflers does not require a tune. According to DK customs you don't need a tune for a new air cleaner either. Older engines were too lean to not tune but according to them the M8 isn't lean from the factory. Up to you if you want to believe them. But really other than aesthetics there's no benefit to an intake on a stock motor which is why I'm sticking with what I have until I decide to change the cam.

lie. first, you don't have to do all 3. if you just want the slip ons, install them yourself. it does not 'void' the new bike warranty, though of course, there will be no warranty on the exhaust itself, except as provided by the mfg, not harley.

another lie (actually two of them). there is a big list of items that are supposed to be checked/adjusted at the 1k 'oil change'. it's a double check on the factory, and to make sure that nothing loosened up or became maladjusted since the bike going into service. look in your owner's manual at the 1k service. it will show you the minimum that needs to be done. also, if they maintain that 'they have to perform the service to maintain warranty', then they have to provide that service free of charge. same goes if they say you have to 'use harley oil only'. use whatever oil you like, as long as it meets the specs. look up magnusson-moss warranty act. it's a federal law. however, i wouldn't try to force your hand with the dealer. it'd be akin to trying to flex at a restaurant, who knows what they're going to do with your food while it's out of your sight.
