While I don’t like it or agree I understand the cost of most things are going up. I think HD should have raised the MSRP and not added a surcharge. My guess is if the surcharge ever goes away, the price will increase by that amount.
As for dealerships they are trying to take advantage of the ‘22 new model hype to put more money on their bottom line. They want you to think you will not be able to get a bike if you don’t buy now. Someone in another post said a dealership wanted $60K OTD for a CVO RG in orange, MSRP would have been about $44,899…
I’m a little to young to remember the 70s/80s when it comes to buying a HD. My first attempt was October ‘93. I walked into Curly’s Harley Davidson in Walkertown NC. Back then if there was a new bike for sale most likely it would have been a Sportster. I had my heart set on a Fatboy, until the salesperson told me to leave a $500 deposit and they would have the bike in about 18 months.
Back then you could put a deposit down on another bike when you picked up your new bike. Ride the new one until the next one came in and sell the used one for as much as you paid for it, or more. Now days can you imagine the dealer markup if you had to wait 18 months?
My guess is things will really change over the next year or so. As people have overpaid for automobiles, boats, campers and Harley’s they will be stuck with a tough decision. Keep it long tern, take a BIG loss or have it repossessed.
Yeah its even cyclical within the year. You would think the Dealerships would learn there lesson. The local Dealership near me still has 2021s on the floor as we speak. So to all the people who think you have to run out and get the bike of your dreams now and pay Dealership mark up because it will be gone if you dont think again. I'm sure that's what the Dealership wants you to believe but that's a hard sell when they still have 2021s from last year. Lol. You can get it for less if you wait ✋️
And if your Dealership dont have 2021s left over on the floor well they probably just sold them not to long ago for deal before the 2022 came in.
This is the reason I bought my 2018 RGS 2 weeks before the 2019 s came out. I paid 0 setups 0 freight and saved 2800 bucks off MSRP. It did kind of sting when the 19s had the 114 and a better radio but with the cash, I saved that was short-lived. There are deals at the end of the year if you arent one for got to have the latest and greatest

With the way the economy is I see a lot of repossessions in the future.
I've got a little over 3000 miles on it. The first thing I started adding are comfort items. Pegs, Klockworkz Flair shield, ASR seat and pillion, 12" Factory 47's, mirrors and luggage rack and bitch bar and floorboards. Now that I got that out of the way, Tab 50 Cal's are next then maybe some shocks at some point. But for now, I'm loving my investment!
