I watched a video a couple months back about a guy who ordered a Ford Bronco and waited around 8 months for it. The price was set, deposit was made, just waiting for it to come in. When it finally arrived, the dealership they called and said, "We have a problem," and proceeded to tell them the price was $10,000 more. It was particularly surprising to me because this guy was actually an employee of the dealership!

I think they ended up negotiating it down to $5,000 but they still screwed him over. I would have told them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine, but the truck was actually for his wife and she was in tears.

Sales people are trained when you come in to make you feel like you're friends and build that rapport. Never fall for that, it's purely business and they will screw you over any time they can.

I agree with much of what’s been said. Needless to say, I told them “ not today” and walked. As much as I’d love a Road Glide, I work to damned hard for my paycheck. Last year, I only took two scheduled days off work and they were months apart. I’m not going to throw all that overtime away.

Two ways to play it, boycott everything you don’t absolutely have to have such as high gas, higher restaurant and grocery, cars, trucks and toys hoping your idea of an item’s worth returns or take advantage of the limited and unknown number of sunrises we have and say screw it I work hard so I can enjoy life. I choose the later option and always will. I’d much prefer making memories living life than counting pennies on my bank statement. To each his own!!

A lot of the stuff you named are necessities. Lol. Hard to boycott groceries. Lol. A motorcycle is a want. I get what you're saying believe me. But there's other ways to enjoy life besides pissing away your hard earn cash on an overpriced motorcycle. You can also find a good deal on a motorcycle in the used market if you look hard enough at private sellers.

I just bought a 22 road glide special at msrp, no bs fees, discount in the parts dept and a very fair trade value.

There are some really good dealers out there still. I definitely try to support them with my parts purchases whenever possible.

I’m just saying a ribeye is a want, a brand name vegetable is a want, cheaper can always be had. And I understand your position and probably should drift a tad in your direction but I’m 54, arthritis and don’t know how many good rides I have left. I have the funds and I drive my wife crazy beating the sales guys up negotiating, but at the end of the day if I want it and can afford it, I’m getting my best deal and pulling the trigger. My uncle once told me that my toys would never cost more than the value of the memories

I was going to buy a new bike, but when prices went up last year I bought a 2012. I had some problems with it, but I got them fixed and the bike is great for half the price of a new bike.

I was looking at a new car for my wife, and used RVs. Prices are crazy. I'll wait until they come down or forget about it. I lived on nothing for a long time, and I already have everything I need now. I don't forget people who try to take advantage of me. When I was looking at Harleys in 2004, demand was high and the local dealer couldn't care less if I bought a bike. So I bought a Kawasaki. I bought my first Harley out of town in 2011. And the dealership who thought they didn't need my business, folded two years ago.

I get your position better then you think. Im 42 and ive bought waaay too many Harleys and brand new Muscle cars. If I get a 2022 at MSRP or lower it will be my 10th Harley 8th brand new Harley. At some point you have to be responsible with your money and balance fun and wants. Especially if you have kids. I do.

All I'm saying to people is don't let the dealerships take advantage of you with insane mark ups and sur charges. There are dealerships that will sell at MSRP. Take your time and find them and negotiate. It's OK to walk. It's just a bike they'll be more. It's better then F-ing your finances up and getting upside-down in a loan before you even ride the motorcycle.
