I may not be remembering correctly, but I want to think that right after I bought my 14 SGS a few years ago, the dealer ran the VIN for recalls and those Dzus Clips were on the list. The PO had already changed them out to the ones that squirrelsnest posted. They take a little more work, but I feel a lot better with those holding my bags on. I didn't know about the rear lever hitting the saddlebag lid so it doesn't come off........ nice feature! Thanks skratch!

My bike had the saddlebag recall too, the ones squirrelsnest posted look like the best made.

Never thought about it before, but if I want to keep my organizer in my right saddle bag, I'll have to go with one of the round **** type.

i found that out by accident myself. i tightened one down, and it just happened to be sticking straight up when i reached what i thought was 'tight enough' and found that the saddlebag lid would not shut. so i had to either loosen or tighten it to get it out of the way of the lid.

front one doesn't have that issue, but if you've got at least one pin holding the bag on, it isn't gonna fall off....

Most come in black
Good option. The HD lever ones they went to take up room in the bag and get hung up taking stuff out.

I’m one of the ones that’s never had a problem with either the original or updated Dzus fasteners. I figure if they’re good enough to hold on aircraft panels, they’re good enough to hold on my saddlebags.

Yup....... I still have the OEM Dzus Clips on my 03 RKC and have had no issues to date. But don't see any reason to to go back to them on the 14 SGS which apparently had so sort of issues with them, hench the recall?

I remember someone posted their saddle bag fell off and the discussion that followed. Not many thought the part could be faulty, it had to be operator error, like above those connectors are used everywhere and they work well. That is until you build one that when you engage the pin into the spring and lock it down the tension is not enough to hold the pin in place. The recall was for 2014 -15 touring bikes

Well, the recall happened in 2015, shortly after the Rushmore touring bikes were introduced. We started reading about all these 2014/15 MY touring bike saddlebags littering the highways. The claim was that both saddlebag’s Dzus fasteners were coming loose on their own and causing the saddlebags to fall off. I have my own theories about what really was happening, but I’ll keep them to myself. 🤐

they are a little larger, but i've never had a problem using them. on trips, i use the saddlebag inserts (hd calls them liners) and i am still able to get them in and out of the bag with no issues. i was a little nervous when i first put them on my 2013 thinking the same, but it turned out to be a non-issue.

I never had good luck with the dzus clips.
I also had the red plastic **** ones fail. I suspect the cheap plastic deteriorated.

I went with the newer HD style. Very nice and no issues.
