+ 1 on the Bell Pit Boss...it's what I use for a half helmet.
If maximum safety is important, another option is a Super Seer I've never had one but considered them. They're not cheap but must be one of the best as they are what most motor police use.
Have a look at the HamrHead helmets from Blackbeardsgear.com.
I bought the Shorty Matte one and its the lightest, most comfortable, lowest profile DOT helmet I’ve ever had.
As good a quality helmet you can get in a brain bucket style.
There are two main factors I would consider, fit (comfort) and how well it protects. Fit is an individual thing. As for safety, is there an independent evaluation on the internet? I know they all meet the DOT standard, but that is the minimum. I am interested in how well it stays on and brain protection based on impact levels and locations.
I ride with a 1/2 Helmet when 2-up and a full helmet when riding solo or for cooler weather. am considering a 3/4 helmet to replace the 1/2 helmet to increase protection and to install speakers. Speaker options for the 1/2 helmet are pretty slim.
You'll get all manner of responses to your question. Truth is if it weren't law here in Alabama and Tennessee I'd not wear one at all in warm weather. I searched and tried multiple versions until I found a low profile half helmet in Lynchburg that properly fit my oval-elongated nugget without pressure points. I forget the brand and I'm not near it at the moment but your head shape, not only circumference, will determine which fit you'll be most comfortable with.

Hamrheads and Bad *** are both nice small halfs with Hamrheads getting the nod. Microdot, not impressed. I've had all 3. These all say DOT but none of them are but they are much better than the beanies. If you want DOT, then get a name brand that has the certification.

Same here, and I wish they'd change the law in Nevada. It gets so hot your brain cooks. As soon as I cross into Utah or Arizona the helmet comes off.
