I like any helmet with a ratchet type chin strap. The D-ring is sometimes cumbersome to use.

What ever happened to the Snell certification? don't see it much any more. Isn't DOT basically a useless rating, like being UL listed?
Shoei still carries snell.

Bit of real world advice on that ? No matter how little or much a helmet costs you you impact it hard enough the break any of them it's probably going to scramble the brain wearing it. Buried 2 very good friends to this. One had a full bucket the other a cheap beanie, one last 4 days after they unplugged him the other went in 6 minutes.

Badass helmets. Their motto is "the most stolen helmet in the world" or something like that. I can tell why. I love mine. I wish I'd have bought one sooner!

Bell Pit Boss and LS2 Rebellion

Both are nice helmets.

I would stay far away from the thin helmets, period! If your going to wear one might as well wear one that will increase the chances of protection. Sure you can die in any of them but there are statistics comparing all types and the thin one definitely win on death and injury. Test showed that the amount of padding and proper fit was proportional to severity of injuries.
Since you started artical about protecting, just imagine that your granddaughter has asked you to pick her out a safe helmet.
Looking at helmets mentioned I would say the Pit Boss would be the one as I also saw they have the retractable front lens. I did also like the LS2s I did see👍
Ride Safe✌🏼

Would the Bell Scout Air be regarded as a 1/2-helmet?

It has doubble D-ring fasteners wich was the only ones aproved for roadracing when I was active on the circuits in the eighties.
