Default Have you replaced your VOLUME SWITCH???

The audio control on my lower left handlebar has worn out / gone bad from way tooooo much use.

Needs about 20 pounds of force to decrease volume and lots of luck to change treble/bass/fader.

Sealed unit socontact cleaners don't do sh$t.

The service manual makes this look like a major undertaking - a half dozen pages or so.

Bought the switchthinking this was going to be a no brainer.

Splicing/soldering/shrink tubing are no problem - getting the damn thing out looks to be a chore???

Anybody been there / done that???

THANKS Dave H.

It's not difficult. Three screws hold the parts together, and they fit logically. It's maybe a 25% brainer.

It was raining all day here in NE Wisconsin today so I tackled this new volume switch project.

Glad I did it because the stealer would have messed up something - kinda intricate.

Forget the shrink tubing - solder wires together then wrap in electrical or duct tape.

The inside of the lower left handlebar looks a little confusing at first but once you dig into it, it is a 25% brainer as Uncle P says above. There are a couple unique brackets that hold it all together.

OK that part was semi-easy.

Here's the hardest part: that freakin $8 button that you put on the shaft is a royal pain in the A$$.
Anybody got a good tip on thisthing???
I use the copper insertand hand press the switch onto the keyed shaft.

But I have lost 4 (FOUR) of these suckers in the last two years[:@][:@][:@]

THANKS.

It's a very easy job to do, I have the switch sitting in my toolbox already from an earlier problem with it. I would be riding along and all on it's own it would go to full volume and I couldn't do anything about it. So I bought the switch to replace it, and it never acted up again.

The outer switches do go on tough, I had to drill out my chrome ones when I put them on. Just took a small drill and opened up the hole just a little bit, and then squeezed it on good and tight.

I have the seven year extended warrantee.

The dealer here in Appleton literally laughs when I insist it should be a warantee issue - they say no way.

Now if there was a HD national customer phone number or HD customer service email, I'd contact them to complain but I don't know of any commoncontacts. Does anybody???

My local dealer was going to cover it under warranty, but they said they were about a week out for service, so I just bought the $20 switch on my own.

I don't believe in dealership service for anything.

I wonder if they would have given you the switch and you install it yourself can't hurt to ask

I asked, and they said no. All warranty parts have to be installed by them at the dealer.

Default RE: Have you replaced your VOLUME SWITCH???

Here's the scoop:

The Appleton, WI HD dealer service dude told me todaythe volume switch was covered under the original warranty but NOT covered under theextended warrantyspecifically. WTF??? He said you have to read the fine print.

I did not believe the MF, so I called the HD Extended Warranty Hotline 1-800-527-7665 ext 411.

Of course, I was toldit was covered but I had a $50 deductible.

They would NOT refund me $30 for the switch even though I did the install and recently forked out $1400 for the extended warranty. That is BS.

Bottom line - I saved $20 doing it myself - got a piece of mind it was done RIGHT THE FIRST TIME - everything still works - and I'll be able to do it again, and again, and again as needed.

Today I decided to do EVERYTHING myself to the scoot whenever/wherever possible so I don't have to give those a$$holes any more of my hard earned bucks.

I threatened the dealer to cancel my extended waranty and get a refund - oh boy, were they nervous then. May we ask why Mr. Horan??? That is when I opened up and let the bastard$ have itwith both barrels.

Is it just me that feels like these fockers rip you off at every opportunity???

The ultimate horrible customer service/satisfaction in my opinion.

No different than auto dealerships.

Ah, that feels better.
