Just stand next to the bike without moving it, and turn on the ignition switch. Then you can use the PIN security bypass process.
+1 WAIT for it to prompt you for a PIN
I find doing it from the left side easier. The salesman even said its easier from the left side when I bought the bike. (as he showed me the top secret dealer code as written in the service manual..)
I said it before; I'll say it again to everyone. This is a skill, practice it!
The way I read it, your suggestion was to put the security system in the maintenance or transport mode and forget about it. Transport mode disables the system's motion detector. The OP would still need a fob or PIN to start the bike while in transport mode.
You read correctly. My 2008 does not have the security system so I have not read every detail re the security system. From reading on the forum, I believe that one of those modes mentioned will disable the security to "simulate" a bike without the security system. Should I replace my 105,000 mile veteran with a new machine, I will be forced to accept the standard security system. At that point I will thoroughly study the manual to learn every feature and over ride function of the system and then put it into the mode that makes the security system disappear for ever more. Then I will conscientiously lock the bike as I have done for these many years and hope a pro doesn't decide he wants it more than I do because even the security system won't stop him..
yeah, that's going to take the dealer to do that. if you put it in transport mode, it automatically comes out when you cycle the ignition. maintenance mode, requires the dealer to do. you can't just do it by pressing a couple of buttons.

Just a thought. Since your 2008 doesn't have a security system, perhaps you should refrain from offering the OP security system advice. Those of us that are familiar with the system are trying to help the OP, you're not.

According to manual: any attempt to start vehicle in transport mode without FOB present will trigger the alarm.
Edit: oops quoted wrong post.
