I have a 2006 Road King classic . It is all stock but wanted to get this high flow air filter from Amazon. I didn't think i needed a tune considering it was stock. I do want to put slip ons later on. Someone told me it needs to be set up for high flow filter. Is this correct?. https://www.amazon.ca/Motorcycle-Turbine-2000-2017-2000-2015-2000-2007/dp/B084N8X6HK/ref=pd_aw_ci_mcx_mh_mcx_views_0?pd_rd_w=T1sC4&pf_r d_p=63b40bb6-64b8-4f3b-b7f9-d5cd70240f4d&pf_rd_r=EWKNQWPP2VKC7BVBTYB6&pd_rd_r= e20b44cf-ce41-4afb-8d4d-9c6126f42bb7&pd_rd_wg=GWErd&pd_rd_i=B084N8X6HK

If you are increasing air intake, you need to do slip ons. Normally people do both at the time or slip ons first. I had to add a tuner after doing slip ons and stage one filter to get rid of popping on deceleration.
Do the full stage 1 at the same time. Get yourself a new exhaust system, high flow air cleaner, and a tuner. You're looking at spending between $1500-$2500. That being said will your ECM adjust for the new AFR (air/fuel ratio)? Up to 10%. However, if you're changing anything from stock to increase more air and/or fuel you should get a tuner.
I recommend that you do your homework first by searching other posts, see what others have said/or have done, and then make a decision as to what you want to do. There is some good info here and bad info as well. You'll learn to filter through all that if you spend enough time on here.
Yes. High flow air filter by itself needs tuning. High flow exhaust by itself does not, but if you also add the high flow air filter with it, yes, you will need tuning.
I have the EFI. Was looking on the web for a tuner but didn't see one for that year. Looks like I'll wait till i get slip ons also before i spend money on a tune. Little nervous about installing the high flow air filter. It already in my opinion runs hot. Again coming from metric bike world but i do smell hot oil when i pull into garage from a trip. That smell you get when you pull your oil cap from a hot vehicle. All good. Spend time on checking more important things on her like cam chain tensioners. Unfortunately Harley has you by the ***** working on their bikes. Special tools for pulling tensioners and locking the gears. Was going to do it myself when i feel brave enough.
It is always going to seem HOT compared to a Metric, especially one that is water cooled ( so anything from the last 25 years)
Some things that help, but not to the point the bike will ever be cool would be an oil cooler and a Wards or other fan system
I have my target AF ratio at 12:5 to 1 on my 2003.. there are some cells I have added fuel to and I watch the timing... but my oil temp on a hot day in FL is still 220 degrees
