Talking Harley 12" Mini-Apes

Just rode home after getting my Harley 12" Mini apes fitted - they are currently too far forward making me lean forward which is uncomfortable. I am going to call the dealer tomorrow to organise to have them pulled back about 3 - 4 inches - then they'll be perfect. Even with them as they are now I can already see that once they are adjusted properly they will be way more comfortable than the reduced reach bars they replaced.

Total cost : $2020 AUD. The only good thing about the cost is that it ended up being less than the $2300 they quoted me (They were able to reuse some of the existing cables).
Looking forward to doing my 8000K (round) trip to Darwin from Canberra to the HOG Rally in June with them - I am confident I won't get any shoulder pain with them (once they are adjusted properly).

As long as there is room to move them forward (towards you), it's very easy to adjust them. You can check for yourself....turn your handle bars to full turn on either side and note how close they are to the gas tank. That is how much more room you have for potentially bringing them towards you.

I have those same bars on my 2021 RKS, installed over the winter. I have only done a few rides, nothing over an hour yet, as the weather is still @ss around here for the most part. But, so far, I love the new bars! No more upper back pain from being forced to hunch over like I did with the stock bars. I also noticed that the increased leverage makes turning the bars during slow speed maneuvers much easier than with the stock bars.
My dealer charged me 840 dollars for the install. I had already bought the bars and the poly riser bushings, plus the black Harley heated grips. I figured since I was having new bars installed, that would be the perfect time to also install heated grips. The heated grips are great, they throw lots of heat on just setting 3! It is still chilly here, so heated grips are very nice to have for sure.
Maybe it is because of the exchange rate, and the differences in prices between Australia and the US, but holy bovine excrement, 2000 plus dollars to have bars installed! I don't feel so bad for what I paid now. At least the OP will have much more comfort on long rides now.

My installer was supposed to call me so that I could have a seat and let him know if my 12" were where I wanted them. Of course he didn't call. Of course I wished they were a little more forward. I'm not tearing the front end apart to move em tho. It's riding season so it'll get punted to Jan.

You think they'd take a measurement or something as they know it's NOT an easy job to just move bars on a batwing.

Called the dealer this morning, they are going to adjust the bars while I sit on the bike, which means once this is done the setup will be perfect. Don't know why they didn't suggest this on the initial install.... Doesn't matter, as long as they get set up right in the end it'll be worth the inconvenience.

We pay a premium for just about anything Harley related down under.
I think it might be a combination of an unfavourable monetary exchange rate and gouging.

Default Testing updated signature

Hopefully my signature will say 12 inch apes instead of reduced reach bars now - testing

After the dealership picked up my bike in January, I called the service department to remind them that I wanted them to call me before they torqued the handlebar clamp down, so that I could come over and sit on the bike, to set the pullback where I wanted it. I'm glad I did, because the bars needed to be pulled back a little more. I agree, it would have been nice if the dealership had called you to have you come over and verify the bars were set where you wanted them.
