Good evening, I am new to harely davidsons but not new to motorcycles (more of a ducati guy). However, my dad gave me his 2000 ultra because he could not get it to start. I got it to start but quickly realized that it has some fuel delivery problems (new fuel hose and pressure regulator ordered b/c only getting 20 psi on fuel gauge). When I was working on the bike I noticed a third cable attached to the throttle body and I have no idea what it does. It is also loose. I traced it to a mysterious black box under the left side panel that houses some electrical components. If I can figure out how to add a pic I will. Does anyone know anything about this third cable (i.e., not the throttle or idle cables that go to the handlebars)?
Yes, there is some slack in it, not tight like the 2 throttle cables. My owners manual[06 Ultra] has a long sequence for setting the 3 cables correct play. Mine works fine so I've never had to do it. I did snug up the 'pull' cable once and it didn't cause any problems. Ride it and try the cruise before you worry about it!
Did you remove the top access panel on fuel tank in order to review internals?
Best done with tank empty.
Perhaps a piece of tank liner or similar is blocking fuel pickup.
