Default 88 Torque Increase

Any input for increasing the Torque for a 88A engine would be appreciated. Cubic Inches is an option, but would like to keep the realibility of a stock 88.

Currently running Stage I with K&N 3909, Reinhart True Duals,

Thank You

I went to the HD Big Bore Kit with 203 cam. 15,000 miles later the Road glide runs great.
The True Duals sacrifice some torque.
I like the torque increase over stock.

if you remain totally stock, you are done. there is nothing else you can do except maybe a dyno tune to make certain you are getting all you can get. Next step would be head or cam work but thats not stock.

Change the final drive from 3.15:1 to 3.37:1. This is the final drive the touring bikes used to have before emissions became an issue. It is a direct bolt on swap of the compensating and clutch sprockets. The parts cost ~$360 from a 20% discount HD dealer. If you do a search using "3.37:1" (without thequotation marks)you will find rave reviewsfor the swap. It will bethe next performance improvement to my essentially bone stock 88.

3:37 gearing is one of the best seat of the pants mods you can make.

Thank You for the input

May look at changing the true duals to a 2 into 1, and the gear ratio change is a great idea

You didn't mention any type of fuel injection system controller, you may want to consider one of the many options available.

Currently investigating the option for that as this is being written.

Have much experience with Dyno Jet Products on FI Buells, however, have not developed an opinion on PCIII, Sert, Thundermax, Daytona, etc

Appreciatet the input

Have been told by a "exhaust systems specialist" that 88" bikes "like" an 1 5/8" header pipe. Anyone able to support or debunk this myth?

Thank You

NCCopBikeRider;

I agree with everyone so far, whatever you decide to do from this pointforward you're definately not stock, although a purist would say you've already crossed that line with theduel pipes. I've had great results with an '04 Bagger (see my signature below). It's currently pumping out a respectable 88.5 lbs/ft of TQ @ 4050 rpm and 77.4 peak HP@ 5175 rpm.The most important number here isn't the HP, it's the TQ curve. I like that low-end grunt. Of course, at this point, whatever you do from here forward will require some Dyno time. Welcome to Twinky performance.
