I just noticed some play in the throttle grip yesterday when pulling in my garage. I've got about 1200 miles on the bike so far, and honestly can't remember if it was like this when I got the bike new. But now that I'm aware of it, it's bugging me.
Is this normal? If so, can it be tightened up? (I can't see any way of doing it).
To fix that, all you need to do is loosen 4 torx screws; 2 that secure the switch housing and 2 for the brake perch assembly. Just slightly loosen until you can start to move the brake perch. Next the key is to work the whole assembly inward away from the end of the bar. This will allow the bar end to seat deeper into the grip and take up that play. Be careful not to seat it too deeply or it may prevent the throttle from returning to the off position when released. I like to end up with about 1/16" of play and no binding whatsoever. When you think you have it in a good position, snug everything up a little and try the throttle to make sure it returns. If good, snug everything up to spec. If it binds or has too much play, loosen slightly and try again.
So this was an excuse to go for a ride and head down to the dealership and see...
They had a nice bright yellow 2022 CVO Road Glide on display. It had no noticeable play at all on the fancy throttle grip.. But.. All the common garden variety 2022 Street & Road Glides they had on the floor had varying amounts of movement... Similar to mine.
I 'discovered' the play when I was moving the bike around in the garage while standing beside it. But when I'm riding I don't really notice it. I'm just twisting the grip and not tugging on it.. Which I guess is why I didn't notice it before.... Guess I'll live with it.
After I replaced my grips on my new Road Glide it was a sloppy like yours when I got done. I loosened the everything back up and did exactly what jp0469 said above. You'll definitely be able to eliminate some of that slack you have. Just make sure the throttle moves freely.
