Default Sena or Harley wireless

Thinking about going wireless. The bike i am interested in is a 2021 Tri Glide. It has a WHIM installed already. What is the difference between the Sena and the Harley 50K? I know there is a price difference anything else or is there a better way to go? I only need rider to passenger com ,phone and music. I was always with wired on my 2017 but the new bike has the WHIM on it already so if i delete the WHIM will the wired work the same as the old bike?

You will not get stereo sound out of the SENA. Weird but true. There are many discussions here about this if you search around a little.

Is everything else the same? If i go back and disable the whim will it work the same with the wired head set that i have on my 2017 Ultra? I am happy with the way the old Boom worked.

Yes, everything else is the same. The dealer can disable the WHIM with their Digital Technician computer. Is this trike wired for plug-in headsets? If not, I'm sure you know you'll have to wire it for you and your passenger. I put the WHIM in my 19 Street Glide when it was new, and have been flawlessly wireless since then. I like it.

if you want to go back to wired, you'll have to physically remove the whim and plug in a wired comms harness.

you can also go with the older 30k sets and save some money there. i wouldn't go beyond that though as the 30k has mesh which is super easy and convenient. and tbh, i have not noticed that there is that large of a price gap between the sena and the hd/branded sena. especially to deal with the non hd headaches.

@dinsmoor17 If you go with the HD version, you'll get the stereo audio, due to a different codec. Also I'm not sure Apple CarPlay / Android Auto will work. After having it, Apple CarPlay, I occasionally run Waze, and have Siri read a text to me. But - I usually prefer the HD Nav screen, and have tunes playing. So - the CarPlay is a gimmick to me, and it is a pain sometimes to keep active. It kicks off when you stop to fuel, and the HD Sena also interrupts the conversation on intercom and a phonecall - as it's linked to the motorcycle. I suppose if I hit the killswitch then turned it back on, this wouldn't be an issue, but I don't want to leave the ignition on at the pumps.

Some days the simplicity of -just- a Sena would be good. Sena [HD or not] is great for riding with someone to aid in passing, predetermine routes/fuel stops, and generally chat about the ride.

If you don't give a crap about the Apple CarPlay [Android Auto - I'm not as familiar] then the non HD Sena is going to be cheaper, and work just as well. My wife still has a Sena 20K, and we chat, but we can't use Mesh, as the 30K [mine] only has one bluetooth 'channel' and it gets used for intercom, and then I don't get tunes... If she had a 30K, or 50K, then we'd have mesh and then music also.

What skratch said. You could leave the WHIM mounted (in case you ever wanted to go back to it) but it will have to be unplugged. With the WHIM plugged in, it renders the wired headset plugs in-operable. Just remove the fairing & unplug it...or have the dealer do it when they disable the WHIM.

I'm with you on this HFS. I do not have a WHIM, but have the "jumper/hack" plug for CarPlay. I've used it a couple of times on the bike...maybe I'm just old-school but I just don't see the big deal and all the "love" CarPlay gets? Got wireless CarPlay in my wife's car and my F150 but very rarely, if ever, use it. I do just fine with (and prefer) the HD Nav and like how it's integrated with everything else on the GTS Boom. I will admit that the having the traffic feature with Google Maps is nice...but again, not that big a deal for me.

For what the OP is looking for, another option are the Cardo PackTalk units. We used to be hard wired (and still have that option) but now have the Cardo's. They give you everything you're looking for, with what in my opinion is a better unit. Fully waterproof, incredible range, Mesh technology, long battery life, and fantastic stereo sound if you get the JBL speakers. With my iPhone bluetooth connected to the Boom, and my Cardo bluetooth connected to my iPhone, I have about 90% of the functionality of a WHIM. About the only thing I can't do with this setup is connect my CB wireless. No big deal as I hardly use it anymore anyway. And if I need to, I go wired.
