I have a 2020 ultra Limited that I believe has a parasitic drain. It keeps killing batteries within 2-3 days while the bike is off. Now it was in a front end collision and the voltage regular took a hit (had a small chip). Could that be killing the power even while the bike is off? Or do you think my problem is elsewhere? Only other thing I can think of is that one of the auxiliary lamps
became disconnected during the collision. Maybe causing a short? I am just not sure if these problems can occur while the bike is not even running. Thank you all.
EDIT: I am almost positive this is from the collision. This was not happening prior to.
If the ignition is off, the lights cannot cause a drain since they are not receiving power. My guess would be associated with the voltage regulator and it's associated wiring.
Yes the VR is on the line side of the battery, before the ignition plus any aux stuff is constantly powered like the memory in the radio and alarm (if you have one). I suggest you put it on a tender when youre not riding it.
The better thing to establish first is battery condition.
As in a load test on the battery.
If a machine or place to load test is not to convenient this can be tried.
Make sure the battery has a full charge
Connect a volt meter to the battery ck for 12.6 volts or at least close. Have seen 12.3 some times and continued with the next step.
Turn the bike on and attempt to start it, watch the meter to see if the voltage drops to or below 10volts.
!0 volts = battery time
There can be alot of discussion about the lowest reading allowed 10 has served me well many a time.
