Default Here's a Head Scratcher

This is the double stud that secures the fairing to the bike. How did it lengthen itself to the extent that it damaged the upper fork tube? There are 4 of these studs, all are the same length and the upper 2 are fine. There are no spacers shown in the parts manual, and none were ever on the bike. I'll cut it down, but this is a mystery to me.

Isnt that stud threaded the entire length? (No fat middle section like a carb or exhaust stud) It was screwed in too far before the light bar and acorn head nut was attached. I just had mine out, makes me want to go check it.

Over tightened is my guess. It just takes two oogadoogahs to get those tight enough.

You're probably right. I blew a seal on that side on the way to Sturgis last year and had it repaired in Montana. It may have been overtightened at that time.

If you were in an HD shop and they did it, there would be no question in my mind then. I don't trust shops anymore and I use a torque wrench on everything.

I thought those captive washers prevented the stud from going in too deep. Were all four washers in place?
