6’ 220, 34” inseam. Looked hard at the Road Sofa, but many reviews are “too hard” or “too stiff”., then the Mustang super touring, but reviews I’ve read say the backrest moves around, not secure, and may fall out during riding if you move around on the seat. Looking for something not lower than stock, and not sitting on the tank like I feel I am now. I’ve owned 3 Ultras, 03, 09, 2020. And the seats have gotten worse with each newer bike. I am in a similar situation as the OP.

The vast majority of people that complain about a seat being too firm don't give it the time it takes to break in. That's not to say all, but the majority. It's firm, but that's because it's supposed to be. Shape plays a bigger part than density, and firm will always win over soft because it holds that shape.

I went from a Mustang (Which I loved, to the Saddlemen SDC, because of the shape. Both are firm, but the Mustang was too wide for me. Based on your weight and height, you're near where I'm at, so not a huge guy, but tall.

I lost a Mustang backrest on the freeway because it fell out. The SDC seat I use now feels better without the backrest. No need, and I have back problems.

Seats are so subjective, I hesitate to share my opinion on them.... but....

FWIW...

I've been through 5 seats between my '12 bagger and '16 Bagger looking for the "perfect" seat (for me)...

I've had a couple of good ones, but nothing great...

I could ride a 5 -6 hour day with a partially sore butt, however I never had a seat I could ride for multi-days and not being dying to get off the bike within a couple hours of the 3rd or 4th day...

Until now....

I finally spent the money on a Russell Day Long seat...

I had about 400 miles on it when I just recently took a 6 day trip... with a bunch of riding (for me, I'm no Iron Butt rider).

My saddle time per day was approximately : 5hrs, 4hrs, 3hrs, 3hrs, 5hrs, 4hrs.... On that last 4 hr day... I could have kept on going... That is an absolute first in my 44 years of riding motorcycles on the street.... In past similar trips, I would have been stopping a lot, and dying to get off the bike on that last day...

The Russell Seat isn't the sexiest, sleekest looking seat out there.... but for long range comfort.... It is now my go to seat...

I always ride solo but like the flat seat of the pillion for my touring bag for long trips. I originally purchased this for my '17 SG and put about 10k on the seat on that bike and now 6k on my 22 SGST. I generally do 200-300mi days for quick rides and 700-800mi on long days and have been reasonably happy with the seat. I do miss the adjustment of position that the HD backrest allowed but no longer feel like a gorilla riding a tricycle with the extra leg room and this seat is night and day over stock. My backside still gets sore when I do long rides riding tank to tank but I I have yet to try a seat that would eliminate that especially since my own cushion (***) continues to disappear as I age. . I also was very interested in the SDC but it was not available at the time I purchased but think it is a worth a look.
I own an SDC (the one with backrest) and thought I had finally found the perfect seat, until I did a 1,300 mile trip over Labor Day weekend- left on that Friday and returned Monday . I too suffer from a disappearing *** (never had much to begin with actually) and that ride damn near killed me. Granted, I have multiple back issues, and expected it to be a problem, but what I didn’t expect was for it to affect my butt too. It got so bad I couldn’t go more than about an 1.5 hours before stopping, getting off the bike, and walking around for about 15 minutes, it was a miserable ride. I’m thinking I might try an AirHawk pad or something similar for longer rides ( the seat is fine for just day riding) or I might sell it and try something else…
