Hey Bear
I had a Honda, actually thinking about it Ive owned 6 Hondas 2 of them Wings ( no soul ) 3 Kawasaki's ( to common ) 3 Suziki"s ( to old for sports bikes now ) 2 Yamaha's ( just for commuting ) and never spent a cent on performance mods, they all went as expected. Now I have a EGC and straight out of the crate it ran hot, pinged its head off, broke down twice and after spending many dollars it now runs OK.Thats not bitching & moaning its just plain FACT!
I bought the HD because I love the vibs of a V Twin as per my 2 kawasaki VN1500's.Love the music, intercom and luggage capacity as per my 2 Goldwings, What I don't love is being branded a bitch & moaner because I didn't get what I paid for ( a brand new cycle that runs OK straight out of crate )Whilst ever people make excuses for the lack luster attitude, product and service shelled out by the MoCo things will not get any better IMO.
AndNO I won't sell my EGC because now that I spent all my hard earned dollars getting it right I want to ride it even on slightly warm days and besides that the words out around here of the problems with the 2006,2007 and no one will pay enough for me to quit it.
Two weeks with my RG and this forum has helped me spend nearly 1K. The good thing is that it's money well spent. I've spent hours reading posts and researching my purchases BEFORE I spent the money. Experience is the best teacher. All of you share their experiences with all of us newbies. Thanks!
No bitch'n here!
Steve

Summed up nicely thats a Harley and thats the deal. You buy a Harley you are paying for the name not the technology or the performance which lags behind every other manufacturer. But like I said thats a Harley and thats the deal.....love 'em or leave 'em.. I believe they call it the Harley tax. The $1000.00 you need to spend on a brand new bike to get it to run like it should have in the first place.

I feel for you, I have no idea how many Harley shops are down there? but all I can say is with both my bikes, 99FLHT and my new 06FXD I have had no major issues, I am changeing bars and seat on the FXD but that is just a given as the company, or any other company can notdesign a bike to fit each person out there, some of us are 6' tall and some 5'6' tall, some are knuckle dragers and some are not..perhaps a different dealer? I'm glad you sort of got things sorted out..a lot of problems with guys/gals is from the dealer, some are good about dealing with issues and some are not, I'm blessed, my dealer is pretty good, but I have heard others say he is no good..go figer. 100% of the people can not be happy 100% of the time. you think that doesn't happen on the jap bikes either??? every sport bike I've owned starting with an 88 hurricane thru my 99 R1 has needed mods to make them work properly... this is not some exclusive HD phenomena
07 UC, bought early this year in March. I just had the 10k service done and still love it! The only issue I ever had was the heat, which was cured by the heat shields from Rjs.
The only thing that is getting me is all this hype about the 07s and their "problems". Even if they are not justified, they will hold true over time. In two years, the 07s will have been "HD's worst" in the eyes of the truly uninformed, which will likely negatively impact my resell.
Did HD have some issues they neglected?, yes.. Did you still choose to purchase one knowing ahead of time?, yes....
I like how people keep bitching about a "heat issue" with an air cooled motor! oh, and a "heat issue" cause by the tuning that the EPA imposed on the evil motor cycles that easily get over 40 mpg, and are probably not riden as much as they should be. either way, it ain't harley's fault. if you don't like an air cooled motor, don't buy one.
