RE: New Ultra or Street Glide - seeking guidance...
ORIGINAL: quint
and the price difference isn't that much.
Isn't it about 2 grand different?
I'd miss the tourpak and the cruise. I know you said you hardly use the tourpak, but it sure is nice when you need it. I'd also miss the lowers, the comfortable seat, and the taller windshield. I know you can always add and remove gear, but if the price difference doesn't bother you I'd stay with your initial decision and keep the Ultra on order. I do like the other suggestions about the EGC as well. Quick detach tourpack, no cb or intercom, lean and mean.
I ordered a King Tour-Pak, Street Glide Styling Backrest, and detachable hardware for when I am riding my son/wife. I plan on adding speakers shortly. I will just pop off the tour-pak when I am not riding my son or wife.
The bike is black. I love that no pin-stripes are under the clearcoat. Blank slate for custom paint.
P.S. LOVE the screen name. Wife loves the Jaws movie.
RE: New Ultra or Street Glide - seeking guidance...
Thanks everyone! After reading all your comments, I've decided to change my order to a Crimson Sunglo Street Glide, with these accessories to bring it up the functionality of an Ultra (well, almost...)
53270-08COZ $675.00 Color-Matched King Tour-PakÂŽ for '06-Later FLHX
53276-04$179.95 Detachable Two-Up Tour-PakÂŽ Rack
52093-08 $299.95 Sundowner⢠Deep Bucket Seat - Smooth
76326-00A$99.95Antenna Relocation Kit 77196-08$239.95 Cruise Control Kit
50379-07$129.95 Passenger Footboard Kits 58302-96 $124.95 Electra GlideÂŽ Standard-Height Windshield
TOTAL $1,749.70
With a price difference between a 2-tone Ultra and single color FLHX of $2,500, I've got money left over to buy the fairing lowers ($650) or some extra chrome.
Thanks again, and I appreciate all your advice. [sm=smiley20.gif]
RE: New Ultra or Street Glide - seeking guidance...
Buy the street glide, add a few detachable parts, and you have the option of a slammed cruiser or a full blown touring bike!!! The switch takes me about 3 minutes!!
RE: New Ultra or Street Glide - seeking guidance...
I was faced with the same choice and opted for the street glide , and adding the detachable tourpack. I like the clean look , even removed those funky psuedo chrom emblems from the tank .. lean and mean .
RE: New Ultra or Street Glide - seeking guidance...
I say get the Ultra.... put a quick detach kit on it to take off the tour pak. The tour pak is nice when you need it. Yank the lowers (But they are good for cool weather) - and sell them.
On long trips I really like those rear speakers - very nice. The cruise is sweet as well.
Used the CB one time in a big fat traffic jam - it was good for that. Don't use the intercom.
Sell the seat and get you a nice corbin or mustang when they come out for the 08's.
